West Ham will wait patiently for defender target

When West Brom is finally relegated from the Premier League a number of players are likely to leave and this includes West Ham transfer target Craig Dawson.

The former England under-21 international has been a major part of their recent revival but wants to remain in the Premier League.

Comfortable both at right-back and centre-back, the 28-year-old now has over 150 Premier League appearances to his name, scoring an impressive 12 goals in the time as he poses a major threat from set-pieces. His versatility and experience appeals to many clubs.

West Ham face competition from Burnley and newly promoted Wolves as well as Scottish giants Celtic who want to land the former Rochdale defender.

Dawson has another two years left on his contract after penning a new deal last summer. It means that the Baggies will command a large transfer fee if he is to depart before the 2018/19 season. A figure of £15m has often been mentioned as their valuation.

Dawson was selected by Stuart Pearce for the 2012 Great Britain Olympic football team. He featured in the 1–0 victory over Uruguay as a last minute substitution for goalscorer Daniel Sturridge. He also featured in the Olympic quarter-final against South Korea, coming on as a substitute for an injured Micah Richards, and scoring in the penalty shoot-out.
