Carvalho gets mixed reception from West Ham fans

Former West Ham transfer target William Carvalho got a mixed reception from the game of the World Cup tournament so far as he featured in the thrilling 3-3 draw between Portugal and Spain last night.

Some Hammers fans thought Carvalho was impressive and solid in the defensive midfield role and suggested Pellegrini should sign up the free agent as soon as possible.

However, other West Ham supporters were less kind about his World Cup performance. He was described as slow and pedestrian at times and only capable of five to ten-yard passes while some fans said he just wouldn’t be able to cut the pace in the Premier League.

Possibly the unkindness comment about the former Sporting Lisbon midfielder by one Irons supporter was to describe him as a ‘Fat Mark Noble’.

Want did you think of William Carvalho’s performance last night for Portugal?  Would you sign the free agent for West Ham?

  1. He did what was asked of him, he had one hairy moment, certainly not a £40m player but would do a decent job for us as DM and if available on a free, he canplaya lotbetter than he showed against Spain, although it didn’t look like he was doing much but Spain were moving the ball around at speed so rather than rush in and get caught out of position allowing Spain to exploit him he marked the spaces preventing attacks that way, its very hard to look good against that Spain midfield and he certainly didn’t will be more curious tosee how he plays against the other teams.

  2. Slow as a snail and don’t want an overweight short passing player like that not creative and well over rated

  3. Agreed WH Fan No32 .. Spot On assessment .. To me he looked good on the ball .. very quick to move the ball on .. kept possession .. looked very comfortable .. Did not look good off the ball as players were running past him .. but, like you say, he could have been asked to mark space and keep shape, rather than go with the runners .. The noticeable thing was how much faster he moved the ball on than Mark Noble .. Likewise, very interested to see how he gets on in the other games ..

  4. I said this when we got linked to him when Pellegrini wa signed.

That he wouldn’t suite what Pellegrini was after, he does not have any pace. He has never had any pace. I’m not saying he’s not a good football player, but he is reknowned for being quite slow.

  5. This is the player that Sullivan would not cough up £30m for last summer isn’t it? Many of our ‘real fans’ attacked him, demanding that he sell up etc. So.… he may have been right then?
