Classy Slav shows humility in victory

|

bilic-slaven-west-ham_3313638Slaven Bilic truly is the most refreshingly honest manager I have ever listed to before and after games in many a long year.

And from everything he had to say after tonight’s game one line stuck out: “If they had got level they would have been deserved it.”

He qualified it of course by saying that we had in fact deserved the win ourselves and summed it up like this on Sky Sports: “That was because of the football we played in the first half and the way we fought in the second.”

He really couldn’t have put it any better – it summed the victory up to perfection but it’s the manner of the man that is so impressive.

At a moment he had become the architect of one of the historic trebles in the club’s history within six games, he was showing humility and generosity towards the team many believe are the best in the land.

It’s fitting given the manner of our victory and the class of our manager that our team are sitting in second place just three points behind them.

He was happy to explain how the system was adjusted at half time, deploying Manuel Lanzini and later Michail Antonio to help out Aaron Cresswell explaining: “Jesus Navas was on fire.”

He added: “Payet and Lanzini did very well in holding onto the ball when we needed them to, we defended as a unit and got two goals so it was a very pleasing performance.”

I’ve said it many times before but it bears saying again tonight:  This is a terrifiv bloke and a terrific manager. His attitude, character,  modesty and ability to take things in his stride remind me very much of a man I was fortunate enough to know and  work with.

Yes, I think Slav and Mooro would have got along very well indeed.

What’s great about this team is that it’s the same solid back five from last year. We still have the Lacey counter attack of sakho to get in behind, Moses on the wing instead of Valencia but the biggest difference for me is the quality of the creative ball players like payet and lanzini in the middle to either hold onto the ball and find an outlet or find a key creative pass.

    Pacey not lacey

Thanks Benitez for turning us down & going to an inferior team like Real Madrid, lol,we got the right man for sure 😉

l recall a smug BFS crowing after we nicked a point of Chelski, and he wouldnt shut up about it for a week. How refreshingly different Slaven is

My favourite comment of the day from Super Slav-

“There will be ups and downs here at West Ham – this result is a major surprise and nine points from the first three away games sounds like a dream, not a plan. But there’s nothing wrong with a dream.”

    Spot on Slav 😉

Yeh ok , we got a bit lucky ,, but it was luck well earn’t .. We are the first team to take points from Man City and the first team to score against them this season … Not much you can say really , except well done you Hammers …. Can we convert that into Home Wins with the same tactics ?? , one would certainly hope so . The fact is we have beaten three of the six top clubs on their own turf and we are Very Very Happy Hammers . There will be a few top clubs and lower clubs getting nerveous about playing us and that is a fantastic situation that we have’nt enjoyed since 1963 / 64 & 65 .
Bilic is doing it for me , and long may it continue … Sorry Bilic for haveing soo many doubts earlier ,, but as a fan I have seen too many promises and expectations broken by final let downs … It seems as though West Ham are Finally finding their Way forward ..
My Christmass Turkey has been ordered & and it’s a fat one . Hope I can eat it Merry-lee.
We are most certainly doing better than most pundits predicted and confounding sports writers . COYH

Great post and agree with every word of it! What a man, what a gentleman, what a West Ham manager should be…..we’ve got our guy alright.

  • Dainon says:

What a guy. I used to cringe watching the interviews but not anymore. Mr Bilic has brought a touch of class & common sense to proceedings. He’s honest in his comments and I like everything he’s saying & doing right now

  • Hammerman6 says:

Not being one to say I told you so, I am now saying I told you so. In an earlier post I said this guy could be a Legend …cut out the could. The Besikta’s fans carried this man to the plane on their shoulders in gratitude for his services, after being so, so down under Allardici, I am will to do carry him on my own to our next home game Ha Ha .
Yes Slav your a legend already.
Thank you for putting my club in the history books again.

  • West Ham Fan No 32 says:

He is just honest, he has some pretty bold opinions on a wide range of things but he says what he thinks rather than trying to pussy foot around the media with the usual PR drivel, we definitely got lucky when others didn’t take the job, we will still have ups and downs while the players learn a genuine football philosophy no doubt about that but lerts enjoy the ups COYI !!! Come on Super Slav’s claret and blue army !!!!

  • bubs says:

There are very few Gentlemen left in the sport most of them have such egos that their players ,fans and clubs do not mater,
Yesterday 2 such men were present Slav great but Pellagrini was good to and City were wise keeping him.
Wenger,Morinio,Rodgers the game could do without them
Wally with the Brolly,Poor fans Advocat poor Fans,Van Gaal Poor Fans
Super Slav stay for at least 10 years please we don’t need to change any more
