Collymore’s snidey Payet comments

Stan CollymoreStan Collymore was one of the more high profile problem players at Liverpool, Aston Villa and Leicester City during his time in the game.

He was involved in numerous off pitch incidents at Anfield, managed seven goals for Villa in 46 appearances and became one of four players sent home from La Manga at the Foxes which saw him and three others sent home after he decided it was a good idea to set off a fire extinguisher in the hotel bar!

Now - like so many ex players who had no time for the media when in the game - he is making a few quid by joining them given he has nothing else to to do.

Normally I would ignore his comments but when a guy as distinctly average as him decides to take a pop at Dimi Payet - a man as professional as any we have seen in the game - it's time to speak out.

Collymore told BBC Radio Five Live: “The second [overrated player] is Dimitri Payet. He is sitting on a huge contract at West Ham.

“But if you’re the player that scores goals and free kicks in the Euros and has a great first season in the Premier League, is it too unreasonable to expect him to be the difference, as West Ham bed in at home?”

Out of order, snidey and wrong - clearly a man prepared to say anything to earn a fee.

Who the hell he reckons he is to make such comments beggars belief - I don't remember him ever making much of a difference anywhere.

  1. Maybe we should ask Ulrika what Stan’s striking skills were like? Overrated clown

  2. Dimitri probably refused to go out Dogging with him so he has got the hump with him Lol

  3. What did he smoke? Definitely something exotic… lol 😉

  4. One is a sour and bitter has-been no-mark stealing a living on the radio. The other is PAYET!!♥. Nuff said.

  5. Lets be fair, he was great at Southend United , then went to Nott’m. Forest did ok , then on to Liverpool and the rest is history.
He was crap once he stepped up from Southend.

  6. Some of his jinky runs yesterday were exceptional and he is such a talent. We are blessed to have both him and Lanzini in the team. However, his delivery hasn’t quite been on point this season and for some reason I think he may be lacking a bit of confidence considering he didn’t take a free kick on 20 yards out on Saturday.

A few games this season I have picked up on the fact he hasn’t tracked a man when I feel he should have in order to help the team. You may argue that is not his role and maybe Billic has given him licence to conserve his energy but when you are a team in our position you need everyone to defend from the front. I think the number of goals we shipped early in the season were not so much caused because of poor defending but poor tracking by our full backs and wingers. Antonio is a big culprit of this. I just wanted to point this out as I think it is something that can be so easily corrected in order to tighten up even more as a defensive unit.

  7. When did this no talent woman beater earn the right to comment on other players . He achieved zero in a career that lurched from one unsavoury incident to another …

  8. His name should be ** MORE COLLIC**cause that’s what he makes with his “”charisma””

  9. If you think it’s ok to knock women about then your comments on anything else in life are worthless as far as I’m concerned.

  10. The bigger picture is how someone with Collimore’s track record gets to be a presenter in the first place. Surprised Keys and Gray haven’t asked the same question!

  11. Collymore is a crude , vacuous imbecile and how he gets to comment on national radio is a disgrace- simply the Talk Sport management looking for ratings on the back of controversy!! I listen to Talk Sport but TURN OFF when he’s on – if more did they’d get rid of him forever! Decent performance against Sunderland, they parked the bus and were dangerous on breaks but our energy an closing down was better – draw at Everton and win v Stoke very possible!! ⚒⚒
