Confusion over status of Season ticket waiting list

This week West Ham emailed tens of thousands Hammers supporters encouraging them to pay £10 to join the Season Ticket Waiting List.

The marketing email read:  “Don’t miss out on huge West Ham moments. Put yourself in the best position to watch the Hammers live every week by joining the Season Ticket Waiting List. It costs just £10, which will be redeemable against your future Season Ticket purchase. With all 52,000 Season Tickets sold out for the last two seasons, joining the Waiting List is your only way to secure a Season Ticket. You will get priority on any Season Tickets not renewed in order of the date you joined – so the sooner you join, the better your priority!”

Yesterday West Ham Chairman David Gold tweeted out:  ‘We do have 50,000 loyal season ticket holders and circa 50,000 fans on the waiting list. FACT. dg’

The reported 50,000 list figure has been repeated since the summer of 2016 with Brady saying “50,000 people are on the waiting list for tickets” but since then the number has not been revised up or down.

Many supporters doubt the high number pointing out the fact that up to 5,000 on the waiting list must have got season tickets the beginning of this season after a similar number of former season ticket holders decided not to renew their season tickets at the London Stadium.

Others have suggested that if the number is actually true that marketing the season ticket waiting list when it is already at 50,000 is more about the money than it is about a realistic chance of ever getting a ticket.  Supporters have called for transparency around the list so each and every fan can understand what number and priority they are on the waiting list.

Moore than just a podcast presenter Nigel Kahn messaged David Gold saying “If that is a FACT, why has the club emailed this week asking if I want to join the Season ticket waiting list for £10. Either you dont have 50,000 on the list, or if you do, you want teners off fans for something they won’t stand a chance of getting.”

  1. They might want the wait8ng list to be as b8g as possible to justify increas8ng ground capacity to 60k?

  2. Sorry, I really need to check for fat fingering before hitting “post”.

  3. I think Nigel has got it just about right. The Boatd continue to pull the wool over supporters eyes and they wonder why we get ****** off. Spivs

  4. I phoned up after not being contacted in the close season with an option to buy a season ticket because I was fairly certain I would have been near the top of the list and should have been offered an ST, apart from the fact it took ages to get through, I wanted to know why I hadn’t been contacted and where I was on the list, they said we can’t give you an answer on that… this close season I am going to phone up as early as possible and see if it makes any difference, I don’t know about 50000 but it wouldn’t surprise me to be honest. I do think the management of everything to do with the season tickets and ticketing in general is p1ss poor, its amateurish like so many of the things they have done it shows how unprofessional they are. they should also either make only one charge to be on the list for its lifetime, close the list each season when it hits say 2500 renewals or offer some other incentive to those on the list that didn’t get the chance to buy one to get the money back via a reduced ticket price the next season, any half decent company would do that because oftherwise it is just about the money because with so many on that list if it is done in order of where you are on the list for anyone towards the end of the list if last season is anything to go buy they are looking at 20+ years before they would get a shot at a season ticket.

  5. Why would they be trying to con people out of £10?Even if 50,000 more signed up that’s only half a million. I was on the waiting list and was one of the 15,000 that were offered one of the 5,000 season tickets that became available this season and now I am a season ticket holder. I only paid once and was on the waiting list for season one at LS and got mine season 2. They should tell you where you are on the list though.

I guess as you only pay once the list won’t get smaller apart from those that take up a season ticket which was 5,000 this season. I don’t suppose it is beyond the realms that another 5,000 have joined the list since?

Why all the suspicion all the time?

    • They charge you each Season Mart not just once, allbeit they say if you take out a claret membership you get a £5 discount, the point is if they know they only have 5000 to offer then they shouldn’t be selling more than say twice that it is unscrupulous, I am not anti board but I think conning people out of money which is what this is is not right.

      • No, you are wrong. Once you have paid your tenner, you’re on the list. I paid around January 2016 and got my season ticket for 17-18. If you don’t dont go on the list you’ll never get a season ticket. The longer you leave it the longer you’ll wait. People can make their choice, if you never want a ST don’t pay a tenner if you do or even might want one in years to come – pay one off tenner and wait patiently.

  6. Also why is it so difficult to sell your seat on the ticket exchange? I have successfully sold once out of four listings. Didn’t even get my seat sold when I couldn’t make the Spurs game. Are there really 50,000 fans out there wanting tickets? They can’t be that desperate.

  7. Yes, it sounds as if either the waiting list, the bank account or both need topping up.
I was on the original waiting list and successfully applied for season tickets. However, my e-ticketing account still shows me as on the waiting list and there is no obvious way to cancel this entry. I wonder if the figures quoted as being on the list include existing season ticket holders?

  8. Spot on I would say pajowa ! 👍
As was said on a banner ? We are supporters ? NOT customers !!
Skin as thick as a hippo? I’m surprised waynetta isn’t offering a lap dance for successfull applicants ! But I don’t think in twenty years 32 looking like jabbathehut would be to appealing for most ! So only staunch boardettes need apply 😂😂 . I’m surprised its still a tenner and not a pony in the pocket 😂
