Contract cancelled… but we still pick up bill!

EXCLUSIVE

carl-jenkinson-562633West Ham will continue to pay Carl Jenkinson wages of around £30k a week plus the remained of a £1.5 million loan fee… despite the two clubs agreeing to tear up his contract.

Some had assumed that news of the development would give the Irons a big finanical saving but ClaretandHugh was told exclusively this morning that is definitely not the case.

The defender has now returned to Arsenal with a cruciate knee injury and last night the clubs agreed to cancel the contract between them.

But in simple terms there was nothing within that contract which allowed the Hammers to escape payments to the North Londoners or to Jenkinson should such an injury occurrence take place.

Our usual Hammers source explained: “We of course save tiny bits and pieces on appearance bonuses but the loan fee and wages are paid by us until June.

The only reason for doing it was to free the way for a loan signing but that didn’t happen of course so we gained nothing from the move.”

  1. I’d rather we were paying his wages now he’s back with the Gooneers than paying him while he’s doing damage to us on the field. Bit of a result if you ask me!

  2. Surely if a Contract is cancelled it is cancelled and no more payments are made.
Seems strange that Contract law doesn’t apply in football circles, makes a mockery of the law I think.

  3. If we do not pay they don’t cancel the contract and we end up with Fair play rules if Jelly does not go
I ain’t paying so who cares as long as he does not wear our shirt again,

  4. Arsenal must be loving this, i hope the board are not going to up the price of the OS season tickets to pay for it ! Every sympathy for Jenks though..

  5. Arsenal are hardly rubbing their hands together are they?, we’ve sent a player back that they (not us) value at £13 million and is a high risk to any future loaning that can’t get in their squad

  6. Don’t think I’d be too happy if Lee, Poyet, Oxford etc came back injured with a ‘he’s your problem now’ note attached

  7. If you have a contract you have a contract, why would the gooners give up the money they are entitled too ? Is the same for us if we loaned out a player, he was injured playing for us (costing us a penalty and a win) so ultimately its our responsibility hence we pay the contract up, as Voice of Reason said, the way he played this season was not good for whatever reason so better he is back at the Gooners rather than doing us any more harm on the pitch.

  8. We should’ve been able to get some cash of, they must have wanted him back to start treatment and rehabilitation so we should’ve used that imo

  9. Bit like buying a bag of gear, you drop some on a wet floor, you’ve still got it but don’t want it
