Europa exit can’t come soon enough for Corden

Celebrity West Ham fan James Corden says he will be delighted if the Hammers get knocked out of Europe on Thursday evening.

“I would be over the moon if we got knocked out,” the comedian told Talksport. ‘I just don’t know what we gain from it, apart from the stress in puts on the squad and on the team.”

The Hammers are currently tied 2-2 with FC Astra, heading into Thursday’s crunch clash away from home.

And comedian Corden, co-creator of the Gavin & Stacey hit TV series, added: “I read an interview with Mark Noble, who said when they got back from Malta they arrived back at 5am and then had warm-down training three hours later – it can’t be great for the team.

“Look at Everton, they have a strong squad of players, but it was only once they were knocked out of the Europa League that they started to climb out of trouble [domestically] last year.

“All that matters for West Ham is that when it comes to our first game in the Olympic Stadium, we’re playing in the Premier League, because it will be a catastrophe if we’re not.”

  1. Worse photo on the planet,
Go back to Barlow the love of your life just knew you would fall in the COWARD group
    Call your self a fan

  2. He is/was a hippo fan.I heard him on talksport.Sounded like he didnt have a scooby about whats going on at the moment. He was spouting all this becareful what you wishfor crap not long ago.First class Bellend!! 😉

  3. Corden’s slaven a laugh isn’t he? Mind you can’t understand making the boys go without sleep and turn up for a warm down two hours after a flight. Was that an old school character building test or something? See what they’re made of? If dicksy and Slav try too much of the old school discipline they might find the modern player won’t put up with it like they had to in the past. Not predicting a mutiny or anything. Not as if they don’t get paid well enough for it. Bit of hardship would do them good.

    • Hence the reasons why Roy Keane and Di Canio failed at Sunderland. They tried to make the players train hard and they didn’t like it so spat their dummies out.

  4. How about the fact that if you are in Europe you attract a better class of player? as the window is still open I would suggest that this will help strengthen prospects of WH. Also this would help with sponsorship too. I understand that PL is the main focus but Europe also teaches the players to play against different types of players and teaches them to adapt tactics, something that was sorely lacking last term.

  5. Corden is a dick, doesnt surprise me at all he would be over the moon.He can text hippo & celebrate us losing together. Two teletubbies bouncing around with excitement.

  6. It does attract a better calibre of player being in Europe but then again so does being successful in the PL. Realistically I’d prefer to do well in the PL, Europa is a good thing and all the points people have said are true but let me ask you all something.. Beating a shoddy at best Romanian side or beating arsenal at the Emirates, I know which I’d prefer. either way win or lose its experience for a lot of our players and I’ll still love West Ham United
    COME ON YOUUUU IRONNNSSSSSSSS

  7. I’ve never been a fan of James Corden – a bit of a prat in fact – but I make him right about the Europa Rubbish!

More trouble than it’s worth, we haven’t got the depth of squad, chance of injury blah, blah, blah – ad infinitum!

  8. It’s obviously a joke…********!

  9. What a 5 star Pr*ck. Comic ? pushing the definition. Why would they ask his opinion anyway – who gives a sh*t what he thinks.

we’ve seen some very talented youngsters get valuable game time out of this competition and we haven’t exactly gone all out to play our best team week in week out have we. Last Thursday was the only time we put a strong team out to start and they played really well until going down to ten men.

people keep quoting the teams that have suffered by being in the competition but conveniently forget that Fulham got to the final and also finished 7th in the premier league that season. Maybe its more to do with the talent and how its managed.

  10. Useless Cowardly tub of Lard . James Corden is a, What !! , celebrity West Ham Fan !,,,
Don’t sound much of a Fan to me .
I would celebrate your face never being on our TV screens again , not even funny . You can hear funnier jokes at any Premiership ground any natch day . Probably where he steps his material from . Get on yer bike and peddle back to Barlow ,, non fan .

  11. At least you changed the photo Hugh,
Now there is only one lard arxe with a big mouth,
Should not need such a big mouth for Barlow

  12. I think Corden is right, we have used the qualifying stages as a pre season, plus all the other games and we are already stretched and picked up a serious injury. Exit is ominous anyway & for all those calling the Romanians a bad team, well they made us look pretty average & we were supposed to be the big boys. He is entitled to his opinion so the abuse he is getting is uncalled for. The latter stages of pre season is when you are supposed to know and play your best team to gauge the starting 11 for the prem, i don’t think Slav has got a clue what the best side is yet, if Sunday as predicted was supposed to be a sample of out best side then that proves it.

  13. Anyone can ‘abuse’ who the hell they want No6,when a fan says he will be over the moon if we go out, basically saying he wants his team to lose the match or tie then he is an idiot.Any fan wishing their team to fail is a w*nker!!

    • its all about opinions, we all know what he meant by us not being in the Europa, it stretches a squad that is already not good enough. the problem with celebrity fans is once its known what team they support they feel they have to give an opinion. if you don’t agree with an opinion fine, you can say you think they are talking nonsense, personal abuse is cowardly.

      • Not at all,i would say exactly the same to his face.Aint an issue to me.Any fan who wants his team to lose is the cowardly one.I might be an old boy but it doesnt stop me telling people to their face what i think.I dont need to be a keyboard oap warrior.Im sure even when asked on talksport (which i listened to),he did not have to say he would be over the moon. What a ridiculous statement!!
