Deal almost done as Irons meets Fredericks agent

Ryan Fredericks was this morning closing in on his move to West Ham.

Despite inaccurate reports that he is already an Iron, the Fulham free agent has yet to officially put pen to paper.

The 25 year old, however, is expected to be on board by tomorrow (Tues) after David Sullivan held talks with his representatives today.

A highly placed London Stadium source told ClaretandHugh: “The club met his advisers today. The discussions were very positive and we confidently expect it to be concluded by tomorrow.”

The Hammers have been in pole position to sign the player following his refusal to agree a new deal with the newly promoted Cottagers.

And the club appears to have beaten off all rivals for the highly rated 25 year old after Southampton and Crystal Palace both showed an interest.

Manuel Pellegrini gave his stamp of approval to a deal which has been on the cards since David Moyes’ era.

  1. At the risk of sounding cynical…

Does this transfer situation sound any different to the last 4/5 years.. or more? And I’m not talking about investment.

Promising player on a free, ofcourse we have to act fast, but a player scouted before the managers time?

It seems all our managers want the same players – I wouldn’t be surprised in Pellegrini is a fan of Carvalho, just like Bilic & Moyes (cough, cough, also available on a free).

We’ve been linked with some exciting players, but so far, the transfer shake-up doesn’t seem to be taking place. We could take Ronaldo and Bale and it would be a bad signing if the transfer didn’t START with the manager and his team. Stamp of approval on a player recommended by non-footballing staff is the wrong way round.

Let’s get our house in order first. COYI

    • Yes mate sounds the same so far, lots of paper talk no action, this guy is more of a punt type transfer from Sully who loves a freebie.

      • Yea, seems fair enough as I think we have 1 more season in Zabaleta and Byram looks to be on the way out, but it’s another senior place taken up and a dent on wages (FFP).

There was an article published a couple of seasons back saying how the Davids occasionally just go for it if it’s low risk. Old habits die hard.

You’d think a place in our squad should be more valuable.

  2. Sullivan needs to mind Fredericks’ agent doesn’t miss him and stamp on him, by mistake.

I’ll call myself old-fashioned, but I would not go near such a player and would sack one who stamps on another.

  3. I guess it’s a reference to Fredericks stamping on Grealish in the play off final – I heard about it but didn’t see it so can’t really comment on how bad it was

    • It wasn’t that bad, it was no where near the leave of stamp Gerard did when he got sent of in 10 seconds or something.

I’m not saying its right but lets not overreact, its no different from Arni getting sent of for elbowing someone in the head. I doubt there is a Westham fan on this planet who doesn’t love Arni.

If we get Fredericks deal over-line, it could be a brilliant signing. People who say all he has is pace and he cant defend, clearly haven’t watched him play this season. Hes a very decent young right back, can he take this to the premiership only time will tell, but the potential is certainly there.

I know we where after him before Pellegrini, however he has all the traits he is after.

  4. The fact he is free does not make him a bad transfer.

Fulham wanted to give him a new contract, but he wanted to move to the next level, and new because of his ability shown he would get a contact.

  5. Would you be happier with him if we paid 25 million for him? From what i have seen he is everything our fans were asking for: pace, stamina, good crosser and can defend. Being free does not change that.

    • I don’t think the issue is investment – a good player on a free is great business, but who’s making the decisions? Doesn’t sound like much is changing.

  6. Can’t see MP letting the club buy players he doesn’t personally approve. He said he wants young’fast, hungry players. Fredericks fits all the criteria
