Defender receives assurance on Irons future

BurkeReece Burke has been told he has a long term future despite having spent last season and this on loan.

The Academy product – having enjoyed a tremendous campaign at Bradford City last term – will be playing Championship football with Wigan this year hoping to make a difference to a club hovering just above the bottom three.

Rumours had been circulating that maybe he was surplus to the Irons defensive requirements and of course produced a blunder which led to the Europa Cup goal which saw us finally kicked out of the Europa Cup.

But ClaretandHugh has learned that Reece remains very much a Hammers player and his future was assured to us by a top insider.

We were told: “Like all the lads of his age he has to muscle up and he will step into a higher level of football this season which will harden him.

“We believe he is an outstanding prospect and his future is with West Ham United.”

  1. Still would rather see real talented players “muscle up” at their own club, in the mindset of the club and the first team players, rather than such as Wigan, hope this is his last season to be sent out and that he does not suffer as many players in the past season’s who never make it when they come back.

  2. Here we have a young man taking time to develop into a star.
Reece Oxford is of the same quality, but he is not going out on loan to gain maximum playing experience and develop.
Does Oxford think he is already tooooooo goooood to be humble ? Or is he being very very very badly advised by his agent ?
Oxford needs to take notice of players and managers – not agents – and start now.

  3. I always think that if they don’t make it, it’s because they’re not good enough, surely you’re not saying that a season at Wigan will make Sam a worse player?

  4. Good luck to the lad he seems to have a level head about going out and gaining experience unlike Oxford who seems to be being led by his agent.

  5. I think Burke is mustard. Personally, I think he will be even more of a star than Oxford. I prefer it when players go out on loan; takes them out of a protective environmant. Toughen’s them up mentally, and develop physically. Really hope we don’t lose either Burke or Oxford. We have ‘poached’ so many super high quality youngsters, hope other teams don’t poach ours!

  6. Its a mine field this topic ! The modern game restricts young ones chances in the top flight?
Unless you’re a standout player you will inevitably move on ! Then maybe return at a later date for bundles of dosh ! Will Cullen take over from nobes ? Will oxford take a c/h position any time soon ? Fernandese , Martinez , quina , Burke , Browne , Balic , “””””””” ?
The lad Burke asked to go out on loan , he is not ready and Bilic agreed because he knew he wasn’t going to feature in the first team ?let Bilic sort it out , acadamys are cut throat , always have been 😉

  7. Sending him out on loan in the championship will do him the world of good.It is a tough competitive league,he can only benefit in my opinion.

  8. Another youngster who needs to hit the weights and eat up his dinners – First Team proper competitive football can do him nothing but good – infinitely better than playing with the stiffs and kids!
