Defoe contract clause hurts Irons signing efforts

PAY-Jermaine-Defoe-SunderlandWest Ham’s chances of signing Jermain Defoe from Sunderland have dipped dramatically after CandH discovered details of the striker’s contract.

The Hammers would be keen to sign the former striker next month but know there is little chance of grabbing the Black Cats top scorer.

Hopes had risen that a deal could be on after Irons skipper Mark Noble started following the formerIron on Twitter.

And although the club were ready to go to £6 million for the 34 year old Black Cats boss David Moyes made it clear the club would all offers.

Now  ClaretandHugh have discovered there is little chance of Defoe pushing for a move back home because he is in a win win situation.

Sunderland are currently sitting third from bottom, propped up by Swansea and Hull City, but if they are to survive it is likely to be on account of Defoe’s goals. He has scored seven of their 16 this season.

That would make him a hero among the Mackems but if they do drop he has a clause in his deal allowing him to leave on a free at the end of the season anyway despite being under contract otherwise until he is 37!

We were told: “There’s no incentive for Sunderland to sell a player who carries their survival hopes and Jermain’s people have cut a very clever deal.”

  1. Christ it is becoming almost impossible to use this site sometimes on a phone with all the ads data crap being thrown at us lol.I went on my tablet to use it yesterday & it even crashed on that 😁😁
    Just saying 😉

  2. I hope that we don’t try to sign Defoe. He can score a goal but I think the Chairmen will be leaving themselves open to abuse from some fans who would be against the signing. I think it would be the minority of fans but its the minority that are always heard, unfortunately.

  3. With all due respect…… f**k the minority, they’ll soon change their tune when he bangs his 1st goal in.

  4. Still an effective goal scorer in a very poor team

  5. Agree with 79 here.

  6. with all due respect ….. f**k the fans that would even consider Defoe. he is 34 he will get injured, he doesn’t score as many goals as you think six of his 8 this year were in defeats. he only ever managed 10 in his prime for whu he is greedy always has been not a team player. he put in a transfer request on the day we got relegated due to the lack of goals we/he scored that season. anyone who wants players like him must be the new tourist fans or have Alzheimer’s

  7. Rumour is Pickford their goalie is now injured with a knee injury, if things weren’t bad for the mackems argueably their best player is now injured. If we want to buy British try to sign Pickford at the end of the season, he has been excellent so far and if he continues in that manner he could be the answer to our goalkeeping questions.

  8. with all due respect…… you come across as a tourist. facts are facts and so are opinions, in this case yours are wrong plum…

  9. Born & bred in Canning…yeah a tourist fan…nothing surprises me with you though…i have clocked you before on here slagging off articles or users…pathetic little man.
