West Ham will need to significantly increase their initial bids for Leander Dendoncker if they want to land him before the January transfer window closes next week after Sam Allardyce and Everton reportedly offered the chance to sign the Anderlecht defensive midfielder.
Anderlecht chief executive Herman van Holsbeeck said: “Dendoncker is the centrepiece of our defence. If we let him leave it has to be for a lot of money. We also have to find a replacement for him, even if it is a loan for six months.
“A deal can be done if the interested club puts 25 or 30million euros (£22m-26.5m) on the table for him. I’ve experienced plenty of difficult transfer windows, but this one is the trickiest of all.”
West Ham are said to have tabled a bid £16m to the Belgium team which was later increased to £17m.
Reports suggest Anderlecht will let Everton sign him as long as they agree to loan Dendoncker back for the rest of the 2017/18 season. Henry Onyekuru is already on loan at the reigning Belgian champions from Goodison Park.

The problem is that they can’t iperate without trying to get a bargain or be seen to drive down the price. They are operating with principles that they used 20 years ago and didn’t work then let alone now where money talks and you have to pay or get gazumped. If this guy is that good a defensive midfielder why do Andelecht use him as a central defender, that is the question I would ask ?
32 they did the same w Kouyate he mostly plays DM but gone to playing CB some this season when Teilimans left.
But w Obiang looking like he could be out for a while & he being our best holding mid & maybe Rice if given more chance we need him & can cover CB.
Plus buying younger players like him less injury prone Moyes supposedly imst sure about him Henry is big admirer & has been for a while. Board want – supposedly willing to buy.
We need bodies Moyes wants durable players that can play 2 games a week. I like Cairney but if going to spend £20m he is injury prone had knee issues all season much rather go for Maddison who has 9 goals 8 assists and all his goals are brilliant no taps ina 30yd great movement screamers one today.
