Fonte pleads for Slaven not to be blamed

West-Ham-United-v-Manchester-City-Premier-LeagueJose Fonte has told Hammers supporters the club’s latest humiliation is entirely down to the players who failed to follow the manager’s instructions.

The  £8m signing says the blame must be laid firmly at the players explaining: “We worked on a game plan during the week and when the game started we did not apply it. We tried to over play in areas the manager said not to.

“We should have gone with a game plan that would be to explore the play behind and in the flanks and we need to improve.

“But I , and we, are prepared to work and to get it right. We started bad and when you give a team, like Man City a head start normally there is no way back.

“It is not what I want but I am prepared to put the work in, prepared to work and improve so we need to focus and improve.

“The fans are disappointed and we apologise and we want to put it right for them. They deserve everything and all our sacrifices and that is what we are going to do.”

  1. Had a plan but didn’t stick to it!! I didn’t see slav doing his nut because he’d been let down, how can you not play to your plan and the manager not have steam coming out of ears! Players arnt afraid of him it’s just all a bit of a laugh.

  2. Must say…i’m more disappointed with some of our ‘fans’ ,then the players shortfall yesterday….

  3. The blame is on you Fonte, As you were bought to improve the side , and not to make it weaker. Shame on you and your disastrous debut .

    • Are you for real you prat. When was the last time he actually played and you could say wrong game to start him. He will add loads of value whilst you are a real numpty!!

  4. Ffs elpojohn give it a rest.Comeback & slag him at the end of the season if you still think he is dog sh*t.The geezer is a proven PL defender who will improve our defence if some of you give him a chance.

  5. jj61 dont feel bad about the fans fella. You are only reading a small cross section of fans views on blogs. They are known to be a sanctuary for the armchair manager & grumpy fans who need to vent continually. You really shouldn’t take these blokes as a majority view from our fans on everything. Some of them really are the worst of the worst moaners.

  6. Fair play for coming out and taking responsibility, turn it around against the Saints that is a six pointer for us COYI !!!

  7. Stop messing around . Get rid of captain terrible and make Fonte who is a leader skipper . Noble is beyond terrible and does not deserve the shirt . My faith in Bilic is draining away . If he says and means he is happy with the squad he is a moron . How can you pick Noble week after week and watch him waddle around in midfield . Behind the game going forward or backwards and contributing nothing.

  8. I must admit that there have been many who have wanted Noble dropped for months. It has always been a contentious subject but even some of Nobles biggest advocates amongst my mates i go with are comimg round to believing he should be dropped.I agree by the way & see it far from being a witch hunt against the chap.Quite the opposite,i think that the fans who still defend him are blinkered by the local lad ties.If he was a player with no ties to the club or a foreign player they would be giving him pelters.

    • True Coolio, sadly he hasn’t got the wheels any more, against City we needed a captain, you could hear Fonte marshalling the defence, whatever might have happened later, he was trying and he was vocal, all we saw with Noble was the usual reactive play, Slav said it was an end to the chasing game, it wasn’t Noble was as usual and even against worse teams than City chasing shadows, he should be the club captain, he is Mr West Ham and deserves his place in our history, he shouldn’t be starting matches, if I am honest I think the player that should play in his position against the top teams is Lanzini, he isn’t a great tackler but then neither is Noble but he anticipates the game well and generally distributes the ball well, most likely it will be Kouyate which is also a fair shout but I think when Lanzini plays effectively in the Modric position he gives us something different, with him and Obiang in front of the back 4 we would have two players happy to hold onto the ball long enough to relieve the pressure and allow the play to develop ahead of them which could give us more control and a platform for Antonio, Kouyate and Snodgrass to break forward and Carroll to catch up with play.
