Hammers admit they need one more player

West Ham have denied any interest in Croatian central defender Domagoj Vida who enjoyed an impressive World Cup campaign with finalists Croatia

Reports arose out of Turkey this morning that the Besiktas central defender had been the subject of a €22 million bid but that was immediately knocked back by Hammers insiders.

A senior source said that the manager was now happy with his central defensive position and that the club was now looking for a back up striker.

That is the last piece of the Hammers squad jigsaw puzzle to be fixed and although there are no names available, ClaretandHugh has been assured that’s the one area the club is now looking at hard.

Our source: We have reinforced at the back but it is clear that with Andy Carroll injured we need to take a look at that situation.

“We want to bring in another striker and will be working hard on that over the next weeks before the window closes.”

  1. I agree we need a striker but not a back up – we need a top striker to play alongside Arnie. However we also need a defensive midfielder in the Kante mould.

  2. Lets wait and see but I would say left back and cdm may also be positions that need looking at 🙂

  3. Would it be worth going for Giroud for that impact off the bench?
I know he didn’t score at the world cup but he would be useful I’m sure.

    • I would like Giroud too. He’s still got a lot too offer.
I would also like Antonio to stay and cover several positions.
Ideally a defensive central midfielder too, but I suppose money is almost at an end.

  4. We also have no 10 in the absence of Lanzini (and please let no one begin to think we are going to progress with Wilshere as a 10). Our form picked up last season when Mario arrived (far better player than wilshere). Wilshere is not the answer as Pelle’s style is to break at pace, one thing Wilshere seriously lacks. We need a top player to come in the door. I would love to think that this young lad Quina is good enough to jump into the 10 shirt (really like him). A Kante like figure in midfield is also a must so lets start shipping out the players we do not need (and asap). Btw Antonio has to stay to cover a number of positions (striker, right side etc.).

    • It doubled my comment but I meant to put I agreed about Mario I thought he was great for us & under defensive manager be better under MP quick one touch passing great link up was our top creator. Inter want Permanent but would be open to Obligation loan w 5m euro down & 30 later that’s what said to Wolves. Love to have Mario back.
And o don’t see Wilshere as #10 nor to I think Pellegrini does he is CM who can make those key passes & play on the break. Even from is interviews Wikshee says that’s where he likes to play & was best there for Arsenal & England. He is best as #6
Antonio yes is great cover axorss front & saying we will keep I hope so

  5. I am a bit concerned that it appears we think we are sorted in the holding midfield position because we are not!

  6. Yes a back up CF would be good but if keep Antonio he can cover.
Perez on loan be good though so last summer tall good link up can score did well when got chance.
Been linked w Inglese on loan from Napoli. Mariano Diqz on loan fro Real be great.

But still think DM is must esoe w back 4 I worry about Oggy in back 4 & Obiang might can do the job but with mid 2.
Think Milan Badelj on free be great add not high wages. Think we have gone heavy in wages could be issue. Have competition tho have to move fast. At 29 great w Fioentina think he’d be agood add & glad to see us linked w him.
Or spend cheap get Yann M’Vila.

  7. Like many I believe we also need a CDM but a striker makes sense too due to sick note being injured yet again. However We have to trust Pelligrini knows what he is doing . Maybe he will put Rice or Obiang in CDM. COYI.

  8. I would swap Obiang for Sturaru anytime. He tackles like a tank. Reminds me of Billy Bonds.
