Hammers fury over Magnusson

eggert-magnusson_1497795cWest Ham insiders are privately seething at Eggert Magnusson’s intervention in the London Stadium debate.

The former chairman decided to tell the world the stadium should be torn down and rebuilt in an interview with the Sun and claimed that money had been poured down the toilet.

The Icelandic knows all about that subject of course as he proved very adequately when running West Ham and his comments have come in for scorn from all associated with the club.

One – who preferred to remain anonymous – told us this morning: “He managed to leave the club £110m in debt and virtually bankrupt and I think it’s unlikely he has attended a game at the new stadium.

Ok, it’s not perfect but many supporters love the new stadium. Eggert’s comments don’t help.  It just keeps a difficult situation rolling along at a time when everybody is doing their best to sort out the issues.”

  1. For all the good work it does, C&H is in the pockets of Gold and Sullivan.

    • In the pocket of D+S? At least C+H pushed for an end to rip off phone numbers not create a site for members to ***** and moan continually about every bloody thing and rip the club to pieces on a daily basis!

    • I think Sean and Hugh are generally pretty objective, sometimes they criticise the chairmen sometimes they are in favour of them, is this more a case of you not liking the new stadium ?

      • Well said 32 there’s a lot of fans who get a buzz from not liking the stadium and telling all and sundry about it on a daily basis! Simple way if they dislike it so much is not bloody going but I guess that doesn’t cross their minds?

  2. ‘Calling the kettle black’ – I seem to recall the investments in Dyer, Lundburg, Quashie, Davenport, etc… then the Tevez affair, then the loans and overspend that could not be backed up, etc..C and H seems fairly balanced to me and this go at Egghead is entirely justified. He nearly took west ham in to bankruptcy and potentially out of the league.

  3. He’s right about money being being thrown down the toilet but that dates back to the original decisions that it should be only a tempotary structure and then to be used as an Athletics Stadium. The thinking behind this was balmy, and people like Seb Coe, Tessa Jowell, Ken Livingstone and later on, Boris Johnson have to take the blame for this – in fact it’s a scandal for which these people should be villified for.

As for Magnusson, he should have stuck to biscuits – he knew something about that!

  4. Crumbs!!!

Bit of a mouthful there, Michael.

  5. Thanks to all of you who have defended Sean and myself against myhammers comments of being in the pocket of SandG. It is of course nonsnse as our petition showed and various blogs we have run re the stadium set up and Ms Brady. As GW points out the anti LS people are just getting a buzz from moaning. It’s what they do Thanks guys.
