Hammers in no rush to sell

West Ham are in no rush to get rid of any players this summer after guaranteeing a new near £50 million overdraft limit for player purchases.

Instead the club will be intent to wait for decisions from Manuel Pellegrini on the likes of Michail Antonio, Pedro Obiang, Cheik Kouyate, Sam Byram and Jordan Hugill.

David Gold and David Sullivan’s decision to co-guarantee the new overdraft gives them more time to decide on who can and can’t leave and Pellgrini can be expected to take his time making his mind up.

Theclub will of course start balancing the books should reasonable offers arrive for those the manager see as surplus to his requirements but there’s no short term pressure on him.

As things stand it’s difficult to see Obiang and Kouyate getting regular places in the team but Pellegrini has spoken of building a squad rather than a team.

He will need options and the board are happy for there to be a settling down period over the next few months.

With Andy Carroll and Winston Reid’s injury issues the futures of Michail Antonio and Angelo Ogbonna are probably at the London Stadium for the immediate future.

But both Hugill – linked recently with Queens Park Rangers –  and Sam Byram will be allowed to leave should reasonable offers come in.

  1. I think Obiang will look even better in a team that passes and moves he is the only player with the discipline at present to be a defensive midfielder.

    • Also Kouyate has been pictured last week in the press photo’s for the new sleeve sponsor so I doubt he is going anywhere 🙂

  2. This is great to hear. For too long, we have let players go for silly money. With the pressure off, and other clubs needing to strengthen, for once, we can be the team who gets proper money in.

  3. This seems sensible to me – at the beginning of last season we let too many players go – e.g. Nordveidt who had begun to find his feet in his preferred position of DM towards the end of the previous season

If we sell at all we can do so in the Winter window when relegation threatened clubs tend to pay inflated prices out of desperation

    • Agree Zahama about Nordveit considering he was also on quite a low wage we sold too quickly.
