Hammers keep an eye on United pair

West Ham – despite, as regularly reported, having had no contact from Manchester United over Marko Arnautovic – are keeping an eye on a couple of United players as they head into the final year of their contracts.

Both defender Chris Smalling and striker Anthony Marital would be of interest although the striker is currently being linked with Spurs.

Martial would only become a target were there to be a serious move for Marko with the Irons perhaps looking to include him in a cash plus player swap deal.

However, sources inside the London Stadium continue to insist there has been no inquiry from United and certainly no bid.

Smalling has been mentioned in the past as a possible Hammers target and with just the 12 months remaining on his United would clearly be of interest to Manuel Pellegrini who is hunting for a central defender as a matter of priority.

However, the Hammers are likely to go back to Swansea first with their interest well known in Alfie Mawson and although the Swans are attempting the play hardball over the fee the Irons have a long standing interest.

The Swans reportedly  rejected a £25 million bid in the winter and the Irons are likely to take a hold on further  offers until there is more pressure on the relegated Swans to sell towards the middle or end of the window.
