Hammers look at West Brom defender

Jonny-EvansJohnny Evans is claimed to be at the centre of a tug of war with the Hammers ready to offer top terms to the West Brom defender.

The defender is contracted to Albion until June 2019 and is reportedly hesitating on signing a new deal.

Manchester City are interested in him as a reinforcement but he is unlikely to get regular first team football at the Etihad.

It has left Evans with big decisions to make once the transfer window reopens in January.

David Moyes sees Evans as an in ideal Hammers signing believing the Irishman would add leadership to their leaky defence.

But Sam Allardyce too sees Evans as a  key player in his team as faces the same issues at the back as the Hammers.

  1. a couple of years ago I saw him as a run of the mill defender, who would not take us forward.
Right now he looks like sheer luxury.
He plays in 80% of premiere games for West Brom. How many of our players do that? He is dependable and professional. He knows British football and how to play it.
I’ve seen his price quoted as £30 mil and also £13 mil, but if Ogbonna is so homesick, the money for him could help us pay for Evans.
30 years old, he has 4-5 years left at the top ( as he doesn’t get injured much ), and by that time I would hope that our home produced CBs will have lived up to all their hype.

    • Agree we need to go younger & Man City & Arsenal want him he lives in Manchester they can afford £30m on one Player.
We need to be more realistic bc need more then 1 player & Brady says we will sell a few

    • Is Ogbonna homesick Sleeps ? Evans is a decent defender, not sure what all the fuss has been about him but I never watch many West Brom games because they are usually boring so maybe I am missing something, I also can’t see a team in a relegation fight parting with supposedly their best defender, our defenders look better when we have a bank of 4 players in front of them as they had under Sam so imho it is always questionable how good a player is when they have a team that’s priority is defence.rather than attack.

  2. he was quoted a few weeks ago in an Italy as saying he misses Italy but he wants to prove himself here. I don’t think Evans is anything special but we need a CB who can be relied on to do the basics well. He at least does that, and doesn’t get injured as much as Reid for instance. Experienced like Ginge without the injuries is a godsend right now.
