Hammers may sue FA over Downing

Downing overheadWest Ham are discussing the “very real possibility” of suing the Football Association after playing unfit Stewart Downing in the friendly international against Scotland following a pain killing injection!
The rumour first emerged on Twitter last night via @Ironviews and was confirmed as true by a highly placed source inside Upton Park to ClaretandHugh within the last few minutes.
Downing was reported to have taken a knock while training with England but claimed after the game he was likely to play at Everton on Saturday after being involved in the first 45 minutes of the international.
Now  Boleyn officials and Sam Allardyce are utterly furious that England boss Roy Hodgson chose to play this season’s key man after being given an injection.
The original tweet declared:  “Hearing a rumour that Sam Allardyce is furious with Hodgson for playing Downing with a painkilling injection. Club talking about suing FA.”

And when we approached highly reliable sources inside the club a few minutes ago we were told: “Yes that’s 110 per cent true. It’s possible we will sue although the FA may accept responsibility and pay compensation.”

  1. What a load of ********. I know for a 100% fact that this story is complete rubbish.

  2. Do you have to moderate Hugh? Would the comments not be better if they were instant? Just a thought?

  3. I am guessing this story isn’t true. I sometimes wonder where we are going. Downing is a grown man, an experienced professional, and if he wasn’t fit to play should be perfectly capable of telling any manager, “I am sorry but I am not fit to play with this injury”. These days, everything is always someone else’s fault and let’s go and sue them for it. No one takes any responsibility for anything, least of all their own actions.

  4. Unless you can provide facts as to why a story is rubbish, then criticising the writer is unfair. If you don’t like what is written, don’t come to the site… Anyway, point I was going to make is that if I were Downing, and there was a chance I could play for England, having been out of the mix for that long, I think I’d take the risk. You’re right sparrow – he’s a grown man, and I suspect that it may have been his decision to risk it. Shame it didn’t pay off. I knew there was something wrong with him when I watched it.

  5. Not only unfair but a tad illogical

  6. All in all a bit of a shambles!
Instead of it being a proud moment for the player and the club it has turned into a bit of a disaster!
Oh and suing the FA isn’t a very good idea either. Not just for downing’s future international career but for any other West Ham player for the foreseeable future.

I believe there is insurance with the FA where clubs can claim for when their players are injured on international duty.
If so we should fully explore this option and articulate any grievances with the FA in the correct manner, in private.

  7. Couldn’t give a toss about England, they don’t give a toss about us, the moment rio left for instance straight into the England team and then the fiasco with dean Ashton, I’d rather the hammers win the league cup than England the world cup
