Hammers PlayerWatch: Marko Arnautovich

By Daniel Danielli Leach

arnau2Marko Arnautovic comes under the spotlight this week after new manager David Moyes gave him a stern warning about becoming a team player. This was the record signing’s afternoon!

19 – Plays ball from halfway line back to Hart. Met with sarcastic cheers.

31 – Noble passes the ball to him in the box but caught offside. Poor positioning.

34 – Makes great run receiving the ball from Zabaleta. Subsequent dribbling is very poor and he ends up losing the ball and committing a reckless challenge on Cleverley.

45+1 – Intercepts ball very well before releasing a great pass into Lanzini.

47 – Makes a great run into the box before header is saved along with rebound miraculously by Gomes. Quickly after takes a shot from a very tight angle but no problem for Gomes. Probably should have scored rebound.

51 – Gets away from Britos brilliantly on the right hand side before setting up Kouyaté.

52 – Wins ball back from Zeegelaar on the edge of our own box.

65 – Turns man on the edge of the box but then blazed shot over with his left foot.

73 – Subbed for Masuaku after being on the floor for 5 minutes as Zeegelaar trodded on his wrist.

Verdict: – After today’s performance Moyes can count on him to be a team player. He constantly ran up and down the wing doing his duties but often the quality in the final third lacked. However if he wants to stay in favour with Moyes and the fans, he needs to start putting in more strong performances such as this one.

  1. Best he has played apart from Bolton in Caraboa cup which is a plus. There were chances today which fell to the wrong man plus Gomes had a blinder in goal for them so signs of some improvement which will hopefully come when fitness levels peak and injuries clear up.
