Hammers set new boss deadline date

West Ham have set a Wednesday May 23 deadline to have their new boss in place.

With Paulo Fonseca out of the frame the club seem now to be focused on bringing in either Unai Emery or Rafa Benitez as their next manager after allowing David Moyes and his backroom team to walk away.

Manuel Pellegrini is a very long shot given  his involvement in the Chinese season which opened in March whilst Marco Silva – another admired at the London Stadium – looks more likely to accept an offer from Everton if it arrives.

The Hammers have been focused on Benitez for the past three years after missing out on him at the last minute when Real Madrid swooped.

We understand there is very little difference in the terms wanted by Rafa and Emery with the added advantage of course that the Newcastle boss speaks perfect English.

Emery’s English is even weaker that Fonesca’s whose future now appears to be uncertain with some reports claiming Shakhar Donetsk reported to be reluctant to offer him another deal.

  1. Rafa all day long. Promise him the spending power, get Lascelles off the Geordies. Time to throw money at the situation Daves!

  2. Not to mention the added advantage that it heavily damages a rival

  3. I dont think it will happen, so im trying to not get my hopes up.

However I would love us to sign Rafa, number one pick out of every manger out there for me.

  4. Remember Gold’s previous comments about having never spoken to back room staff and couldn’t recall their names! What type of backroom staff will the mentioned options bring?

  5. PAY THE MONEY AND BRING IN RAFA – absolute no brainer if it’s possible.

  6. I ques Rafa would just bring his backroom staff from Newcastle. Its usually how it works.

  7. The only thing sillyer than letting Moyes go would now not only to shoot ourselves in the foot but , blow it completely off by appointing a manager of dubious ability that doesn’t understand the Premiership and can’t even speak the Language . Why we should even be considering the likes of Fonseca ( dry well ) or Emery ( dick ) or Silver ( rubber neck ) is beyond any reasonable logic imo . Not much in the way of ambition being shown there .
The only logical and sensible man to appoint is surely Rafa Benitez . His track record is second to none , he speaks perfect English , understands the Premiership and is well respected by footballers everywhere . That kind of manager would definitely help in our bid to sign quality players . THE OWNERS should go hell for leather to acquire his services ,
It’s a non brainer . Failing that , there are others who are at Premiership clubs that just might like the challenge . We could even nick the Fulham manager … ( not sure how to spell his name ) ., cos I can’t remember it 🙄🤷‍♂️🍩

    • Couldn’t agree more mate

    • Yep, couldn’t agree more. If Rafa is possible then we have to do everything to get him. If they go budget just to avoid Rafa’s buyout clause then jeez, they really have less of a clue that I thought anyway. We spent nigh on 10 mil on Hugill FFS!

  8. So what is the Fonseca situation. An article on here yesterday said there were ‘reports’ he had committed to Shakthar, but he still seems to be the bookies favourite. More is the pity. I know there are ways to overcome language issue ( interpreters basically!) but I think it is an issue to avoid. Some of ourplayers were clearly having trouble following instructions given in Scottish last year

  9. So what happens when we get to the deadline and we haven’t managed to get the candidates we were after?
Mind you avram is probably available. 😉

  10. I made my point in an earlier CandH post that it was DS trying to appease some of the sickos we have supporting our club by getting rid of Moyse and his all British backroom team (which was probably the best backroom team we have had for decades).
Moyes had just got a pretty average squad playing some really good football in recent games with some great goals scored.
Then we wave goodbye because DS is going to appoint a coach to take us to the next level. So what happens when, as is probable, no one wants to join us?
    God help us!!!

    • “All British back room team” … that comment made me actually cringe! So? I couldn’t care less if they’re from Jupiter as long as they’re good and achieve results. Lets not forget that aswell as Moyes did (which is 6/10), we conceded a ridiculous amount of goals and Stuart Pearce was in coaching that defence.

  11. Fonseca speaks fluent English and has a great win % record. I don’t know how some of our fans can dismiss him so glibly. The fact he’s never managed in our league before is irrelevant. No one had until their first time.

  12. You can pretty much guarantee that 23rd May will come and go with no managerial appointment being made.
