Hammers target signs new deal with his club

Newcastle’s Jamaal Lascelles is to remain at the Toon and thus confirmed that West Ham’s big business has all been done.

The defender was at the centre of a £25 million bid by the Irons but has now committed himself the Tyneside outfit after it looked – at least for a while – that he may be a new Hammers arrival.

With Winston Reid injured and out for three months, the Hammers instead have hung their hats on Paraguay international defender Fabian Balbuana, who could easily start the season at the back with another new arrival Issa Diop.

With Angelo Ognonna also available, and both Declan Rice and Reece Oxford showing prominently in  pre season, the Hammers look okay at the back.

At Newcastle’s training camp in Dublin, Lascelles said: “I’m happy here, I’m a Newcastle player, I’m still tied down to a long contract.”

  1. Fair play to him, I read another article where he cited Rafa as improving him as a player and as a man, he seems to genuinely love playing for Newcastle (so will probably be sold next week), loyalty seems to be rare these days and is nice to see a young player respecting that 🙂

  2. I agree No 32 – we would love it if one of our players said the same – Winston Reid signing a new deal when Liverpool and Arsenal were said to be interested comes to mind
