Hammers under 21s go west

The Hammers under 21s – overseen by Academy boss Terry Westley – have been drawn to face Bristol Rovers, Exeter City and Yeovil Town in the Group Stage of the 2018/19 Checkatrade Trophy.

The lads find themselves in Group D which means they travel to the Memorial Stadium, St James’ Park and Hush Park this coming season which is great news for those of us who live down here!

The Irons clashed with Bristol Rovers in last season’s competition, winning 3, with Rovers going on to finish 13th in League One.

Exeter were beaten League Two Play-Off finalists, while Yeovil finished 19th in the same division.

Wednesday’s draw, which was held as central London’s Royal Lancaster Hotel, saw the 16 invited Premier League and Championship U21 sides placed in their respective groups.

West Ham were one of only four Academy sides to progress to the knockout rounds of this competition last season, emerging from their group before being knocked out by Luton Town.

  1. There’s huge Hammers support in Devon so should be a good turn-out to see the U21s in this part of the world
