How we rated the Irons against Stoke

CollinsAdrian: Not bothered at all during a very quiet game 5

Zabaleta: A fighter who remains as robust as ever at 32.Once again fiercely competitive throughout 6

Ogbonna: Growing and growing with every game – another excellent outing 7

Collins: Looked as though he’d never been away – outstanding performance from The Ginger Pele 8

Cresswell: Back to the top of his form – great performance 8

Masuaku: Plenty of fierce running  but not at the Chelsea level today. Gave Stoke plenty to think about but we have come to expect more 6

Obiang: Quietly efficient – decent performance 6

Noble: Looked comfortable  before departing after 35 minutes with hamstring injury. 6

Lanzini: Won the penalty and provided two assists for the other goals on a day of great creativity from the Argentine 8

Arnautovic: Another high energy performance. Always a threat , scored , quietened the crowd but could have had a couple more. 7

Antonio: Still looks short of his absolute best but he’s getting there and being asked to cover ‘acres’ of ground in this new offensive approach 6

SUBS:

Rice: Looked more than comfortable in the midfield role when replacing Noble. Mature performance 7

Sakho: Below speed through lack of minutes but then took his goal with great aplomb 6

Chicharito: No rating

  1. 3 clean sheets in a row we must be doing something right 😀 on the radio they were saying how good we were all over the field and how organised we were in defence, they also said we created so many clear chances missing 4 nailed on goals. They said Stoke should or could have scored 3 also but for poor finishing, from the review it doesn’t seem like you thought we were that good Hugh ? (Don’t take that the wrong way, listening to radio and watching are obviously poor comparisons 😉 )

  2. I actually thought that out of the last four games this was the worst we have played although lanzini stepped it up on the breaks when stoke pushed forward. Hugh obviously hates obiang or doesn’t understand his role. The guy is there not to look pretty but to break up anyattacks they make an he does that extremely well. Ginger Pele is our best cb against strong slower forwards like crouch and their other forward as he is strong an puts his body on the line but just glad he wasn’t fit for last three games as he turns like a distressed oil tanker adrift at sea when a quick forward who runs at you is playing. Adrian 5 ? Obviously marshalling the defence way better than hart so a 7 in my opinion

  3. Just watched on MOTD second up so one of the better games for entertainment, Lanzini looked class, as for a dive the guy made a challenge. Lanzini can’t hurdle the player so with Claret and Blue view we may get away with it although I have a feeling they are looking to make examples so we may lose him for the next 3 🙁 imho play Edi Fernandes in an advanced role which is actually his natural position.

    • Yes Lanzini was great. More attacking suits him.
Are team clicked I’m defense & like Moyes said now work on attack. We were great on the counter attack & better in possession.
Arnie could of scored 4 & Sahko could of passed of to Many for one could of had 7 goals. But great game. We look like a team.
Buzzing 3 clean sheets 7 points 4 goals. And in 15th onwards & upwards. I only see us getting better if keep up like this.

Only thing I worry about is Moyes & Chicarito when Sahko came on first when he is most likely leaving after Chic playing decent 10m last game. Needs game time. Still think he could be great & had a lovely lil run & setup they Sahko could got in then went slowly across goal… We could of scored a lot.

      But other than that Moyes
      The Scottish Saviour

      • I think Moyes will bring Sakho and Chicharito in when the two current forwards level drop, its hard to drop Arnie or Antonio at the minute but you can see what Sakho can do, he stretches teams, he makes great runs and he is a decent finisher, perhaps he wants out in January and that is why he is only playing a bit part but would love to see him change his mind and go on to be the player he is capable of being for us.

        • I must say though that I didn’t like his little grandma style of jogging until he scored. He was nonchalant and missed two sitters. Then did not fight with energy, and I even thought “this guy has his head somewhere else”. I did like his finishing on the goal AND the celebration Lanzini and others gave him then.

That said, I would have subbed Antonio much earlier again (same thing as v. Arse), and I would have had the Sakho / Chicharito duo tested for more than 10 minutes. AND I am glad Carroll is not even missed.

  4. A great pulsating game, with tons of energy and enthusiasm.
In a very short period of time, Moyes has got our players (nearly all of them), playing faster, stronger, and using more individual and team creativity.
Lanzini was a dynamo surging through the middle of the park-clearly getting fitter.
Antonio is still playing in pain, but it won’t be too long till he is back to his dynamic best.
We would profit greatly if both Antonio and Arthur can improve on their finishing.
Under Moyes, we can just about match it with anybody at the moment, Citeh included!
Who knows, if we get the right draw, could this be an FA Cup year?
hard to believe the transformation in such a short space of time.

    • FA cup match comes in too soon. We still have to focus on steering clear of the relegation zone. The means beating the barcodes and Brum. Unfortunate, but choices need to be made.

  5. So happy WH’s defense has clearly been sorted out, but Chicharito played 10 minutes – as a winger. If Hernandez wants a memorable World Cup he needs to leave this winter. WH will be losing their best striker. Gutted. 🙁

  6. Before the game I thought this Could be one of those occasions where we slip backwards again as we are want to do . But happily my worries were foundless and we kept our momentum going . Everybody turned up and put in a great shift . Lanzini showed what he can do and Arnautovic was on fire . It did look like a bit of easy fall by Lanzini for the penalty though , but the ref gave it , so that’s that . Collins was a rock and Cresswell was everywhere . Antonio never stopped running . Felt sorry for Noble because he is proving his doubters ( including me ) wrong .
Whatever medicine Moyes is dishing out should be kept a national secret . Up and away from the relegation zone before Christmas is now looking like a definite reality .
