Hungry Yarmolenko states his aims

Andriy Yarmolenko is starting to look the business after just a couple of pre-season friendlies providing some jinking and tricky runs yesterday against Preston and last week at Wycombe Wanderers.

And he admits that he’s feeling better as he starts to settle into life at West Ham but adds: ” I need time to reach my best level, of course.”

Speaking to www.whufc.com he declared: “With every game, I feel better about my relationship with my teammates on the pitch, but we must continue to work hard to get the best possible understanding.

“We are starting to find more combinations, but this is just the start. After another month of training and playing together, I am sure we will play better.”

I am enjoying being part of this squad. We have many good players and the coach wants us to play football and not long balls and play attacking football, which I like.

“I am smiling because I am happy and I am always happy when I am playing football. Now I am really happy! I must continue to train hard and I will be ready for the start of the season.”

Yarmolenko and his new teammates return to pre-season action at Aston Villa on Wednesday 25 July, with kick-off at Walsall’s Banks’s Stadium at 7.45pm.

  1. Sorry this is not about Yarmelenko! The link is the game against Villa & the news that they are the latest club getting a rich overseas owner. I know they have already had a couple, but I am glad we have, so far, avoided this fate. A lot of us, me included, have had our moans about our owners & I am sure there will be moans in the future if things don’t go to plan this season. But I am glad we have not become the plaything, tax dodge, political device or whatever of a foreign owner. That is nothing nationalistic or racist. I just think it is a tragedy that so many clubs have come under foreign ownership, often owners who know little, & care less, for the heritage of the clubs they buy. We like to think our heritage is especially important to us & I think that’s one reason why so many of us struggled with the move to the LS. But if at the same time we had been told our colours were changing or our name was changing……just can’t even think about it. This summer the owners have shown they are not just listening to the supporters but are prepared to respond, so let’s hope & pray that we have a good season as a result & the club remains the club we are all proud to support.

    • I agree with your sentiment H64 And hope it is always the way that we have Owners who treat our heritage with care and respect ✊ I certainly believe the owners care about the club DS has had more flak than most being from Wales by a minority of our support, there has never been any evidence that he hasn’t been fully invested in the club whether those reasons are more business than football time will tell us, for this window he has gone over and above what any of us expected hasn’t he ? On the subject of owners though if the brand of football on the pitch is the way we as fans want to see it, it doesn’t affect me too much who is putting the money in, it is a Chilean with Latin influences who are trying to change our culture on the playing side now which is about as far from cockney as you can get isn’t it ? I would love us to play Samba football with rhythm and movement which it can’t really be said would be West Ham even under Greenwood but signs are there when the style is established we will if not Samba will definitely have a huge Latin style to our play if we can overlay that with an IRON streak to crush our opponents and defend with passion from the top of the field to the back we could reach that mystical next level couldn’t we ? COYI !!!

  2. I think on the article itself it is very positive about Yarmelenko he had a tough time in Germany and we want players playing the game with smiles on their faces, so long as they are focused of course !!! He looks like a clever player that runs and delivers his pass to Arnie for his goal looked simple but he threaded it down a narrow corridor and Arnie scored a goal very few would have, good signs COYI !!!
