Ill-timed Sinclair opinions show little logic

sinclairTrevor Sinclair has decided to open a managerial can of worms ahead of the Crystal Palace match ths week when pointing the finger of blame for recent results directly at Slav.

Having taken time to think about what he said I come to the conclusion that in terms of logic his comments really don’t have a great deal to recommend them.

Here’s his central point:

‘It’s clear West Ham are not defending as well as last season. That needs to change but the players don’t turn into bad players overnight, so who do you look at. You’ve got to look at the manager.”

Now, however, you want to read that you come to the ultimate conclusion that our Trev wants it all ways – the defending has been rubbish but they aren’t bad players so it must be down to the manager.

Presumably it’s the manager’s fault Arthur Masuaku handled in the penalty area when there’s absolutely no need before kicking the ball straight up in the air when trying to clear.

Perhaps it’s his fault too that neither Adrian or James Collins can make up their mind who is reponsible for clearing the ball which results in a goal whilst it’s also down to Bilic that Cheik Kouyate doesn’t Row Z a ball which is picked up with no problem at all and converted into a goal.

These are just three examples of players not “turning into bad players overnight.” ERR REALLY!

He adds:

“(He was) very entertaining over the summer covering the Euros, should he have been concentrating on the recruitment, which has not been great this season?

Now as far as I understand it Sinclair has never managed a team in his life so to be handing out advice on how Slav should do his job seems a little desperate.

The manager is not responsible for the physical recuitment of players, only for recommending or agreeing them and on balance appears ot have made some errors of judgemet based on early performances.

However, the manager is also allowed a summer break like the rest of us and if he chooses to take in some TV duties whilst doing so with the club’s approval, exactly where is the issue?

I’m perfectly prepared to accept the manager must take responsibiity if things do not improve but in a week when he faces a seriously important game Mr Sinclair’s timing is quite awful and seemingly aimed at headline creation.

All a bit sad Trev!

  1. Don’t agree with your point here at all. Trev is employed as a pundit by the BBC so no surprise as a former player he gets asked to comment on WHU. I don’t think he’s wrong either, though we are defending poorly as a team. He makes the very valid point that we are running less (factor that into that our home pitch is bigger) and we either have a tactical problem or the players aren’t a side motivated to run as much as last year ( or maybe both). I think Slav will sort but as this point it doesn’t look good and Sinclair in my view is entitled to express his opinions. As a player he always gave 100% so he has earnt the right!

  2. Trev is entitled to an opinion yes. In allardyce last season the team had a lot of bad luck too but the blame was laid squarely on the managers shoulders with the opinion that there could be no excuses. So if you look at it that way then Bilic is to blame no excuses as he keeps saying. However we all know we have had bad luck and injuries etc but with two players now in every position we maybe should have been able to cope. Plus most of our losses have come from individual mistakes by the players that led to conceding goals and losing. We are told there is a lack of. Incidence but in my opinion it was over confidence that led to our losing. These players thinking they are better than they are maybe because they had a good season last time out. They should remember that last year when we beat teams it was considered an upset and came as a shock to some. We will come good again but the players need to wake up collectively and smell the coffee. It’s no good digging out individual players like tore for instance because most of our errors have been at the back. It is the defence that has been shaky.

  3. If billic had said to himself** ir can finish in the top ten we will be happy, but he gave us the impression that west ham are going somewhere?? To us older suppoters !! That meant nothing? We’ve seen it before** quite a lot.
