Irons battle to nail down defender’s new deal

Reece-OxfordReece Oxford is locked into talks with the Hammers over a new contract.

However, ClaretandHugh understands that there is no agreement with ‘Team Oxford’ claiming that at this stage there is no rush to do the deal given his current contract doesn’t run out until 2019.

The Hammers know however that should the issue go to arbitration given his age, they are likely to receive far less than might be possible should negotiations break down.

We understand that a raise to his basic wage has been offered along with other clauses based on appearances and the like.

Both Manchester clubs have shown an interest in the defender and scouted him during the recent England under 19s European tournament.

He has been regularly scouted by the two Manchester clubs in particular but the Irons remain desperately keen to nail him down to a deal.

The Hammers will continue to talk with his advisors as they attempt to sort out a deal for one of the most seriously coveted young players in the country.

  1. He should have started in Europa League so to be honest I don’t blame the lad. Like Enner, Bilic’s handling of this player has also been questionable. Just play him. he is our future and he will sign.

  2. Spot on John. I’ve been banging on for ever it seems about Oxford.Yes play the kid,he’s a star.He is no worse than anyone else in our defence. Perhaps if his name was Oxfordavic he would get plenty of game time?

  3. That Alibec (the Astra st) is a beast to have Oxford lining up against him would not have ended well for anyone. Reed and Collins couldn’t handle his strength at times, and they are no push overs.
