Irons hero wants answers to countless injuries

phil_parkes_upton_park_11_september_2010West Ham recovery from the depths of the Premier League continue to be threatened by a glut of injuries – notably hamstrings – and a star of our past reckons it’s time the fans were told why!

Phil Parkes has been stunned by the number of injuries the team has suffered with Marko Arnautovicha and Manu Lanzini the latest victims.

Quite simply, Parkesy – like the rest of us doesn’t get it – but believes the time is long overdue than reasaons were found and remedies applied.

One theory put forward is that the David Moyes training regime has put more stress on the players and they are breaking down as a result.

ButĀ  Parkesy isn’t having that and told ClaretandHugh: “They aren’t training any harder than we did and remember we were doing so on mud and heavy grounds. Why the hell are we getting so many hammies?

“I simply don’t understand why this is happening but somebody needs to get to grips with it – as an ex pro I find it impossible to understand and can understand the frustration of the fans. It really doesn’t make any sense to me.”

What does however is Adrian’s return between the sticks with the former Hammers keeper saying; “I haveĀ never been a fan of Joe Hart’s and really don’t understand why we brought him in on loan as we have two very adequate keepers.

Adrian hasn’t been faultless since he returned but we certainly look more secure at the back than when Joe was in goal. Frankly, I find it difficult to except that he’s the best in the country.”

  1. The players do more sprints under Moyes massively more than at any time under Bilic, the game is more intense than PArksie’s day but even so if the players warmed up properly they would find it a lot easier and have less injuries, I don’t know why football clubs don’t take the lead from rugby and install exercise bikes pitchside so the players can warm up their muscles well in advance of getting on the field

  2. Selling so many players under the hope of getting Carvalho in left us with a thin squad amongst others. Andy Carroll was always going to break down unfortunately. How he has acquired a break down be yet to find out.

  3. Acquired a broken ankle that should say

  4. This goes back well before Moyes came in. As Slater says, the squad is so thin this makes the problem worse. But even a big squad would struggle with 10 injuries- and they are nearly all key members. The owners have to bite the bullet. It is no good just lashing out on a few big signings & hoping for the best. I am not getting into accusations that they are tight fisted, but the truth is that to be an established PL side requires consistent high levels of spending. You might get a few academy successes but you can’t pin your hopes on that. And you can’t just spend big once- you have to replace the big signingsfrom two/ three years ago. If the owners can’t live with that (I think they can’t but that’s just my take on it) they should do the right thing & move on.

  5. Couldn’t agree with you more H64 .. you certainly hit that nail on the sweetspot !!!

  6. Agree on Injuries & Hart never understood why we made that loan move.
    And Lewin what’s going on?
Questions of Him now that Wilshere & Welbeck are fit for longest they have e been in years.
Hopefully Davies will sort some of this out bit something needs to be done.
