It’s the return of Hugill

|

Jordan Hugill hopes he gets the chance to show his former Preston fans that he has become a better player since he arrived at West Ham.

Despite regilar bulletins that he’s on his way this summer the young striker is having none of it saying: ““It’s brilliant for me and now I feel as I’ve settled in with all the lads. It’s a brilliant changing room to be involved in.

“I’d like to think I’ve improved since I came here. Training with better players week-in, week-out you’ll get better and personally I do feel as though my game has expanded over the past few months.

“For me, as a whole, I feel good about myself at the moment and hopefully there is a lot more to come.”

He has loved life under the new boss saying: “It’s gone really well and I think everyone is enjoying it so far, even though it’s been tough

. “We’ve been worked hard and going through our paces and the manager has been getting his ideas into us, so we’ve been building on that, as well as getting the fitness work behind us, so it’s been good.

“I’m really enjoying working under the manager and his coaches. His honours speak for themselves, so I can only learn from someone of his stature. It’s brilliant for me to come in and be around him and hopefully pick up everything that I can from him.”

And of his return to Preston he added: ““It’s going to be good to go back there and hopefully I’ll get a good reception!. It’ll be interesting to be in the away team this time, but it’s a place where I made a lot of good memories and friends, so it’ll be good to see them. I’m looking forward to it.”

Is he deluded, or what ? Another question : why on Earth did we ever sign him ? I wish the lad well & have nothing against him. He might be very good. Who Knows ? No one has ever seen him play for West Ham. What goes on at our club with these sort of player purchases ?

You’re a very optimistic lad Jordan but you’ll be gone by August methinks.

He may not be a “next level” striker but let’s give the lad a chance.

Certainly can’t knock his attitude, fair play to him 🙂

Very good interview. Can’t see any thing in his words that make him deluded. Seems a very down to earth lad.

He’s exactly what you want in a fourth choice striker. Someone who’s prepared to sit on the bench without kicking up a stink about not being in the first team but at the same time you know if by some bad twist of fate all our other strikers got injured, this lad would come on an give his absolute all.

      Clive

He’s not ‘exactly’ what I want from forth choice (Given my dream scenario we have Aguerro, Mbappe & Messi ahead of him in the rotation!) as he hasn’t shown up yet.
I recall him coming on for the final15 minutes of a game last season and he trotted around like he was in training and didn;t look much like a hungry reserve desperate to prove his worth…
By your reckoning I;d make a perfect 4th choice, sit on the bench, not kick up a fuss and be a good squad member, and following the ‘bad twist of fate’ come on and look out of my depth…. I might even be cheaper…..?? 😀

Some good points above. I just think that on the evidence so far, he is kidding himself if he thinks that he is going to get a run in the first team. He has not been given a chance so far & , from the looks of it, doesn’t seem to be likely to get one in future. In that regard, he is only one of several signings who were never given a chance. Why did we sign them for, in Hughill’s case, such big money ? The mind boggles ! I wish him well & hope that he achieves his ambitions – but I am not holding my breath !

I have just seen on Sky Sports News that Liverpool have sold a reserve goalkeeper for 12.5 million – also remember that we sold Ashley Fletcher for 7 million – I think he scored 2 or 3 goals all season in the championship – so while Hugill might never make it and the question can still be asked as to why we bought him, I think the price comparatively might not have been all that high
