Karren Brady: We are no Barcelona just yet

BradyKarren Brady has got her excuses in early by questioning the value in January transfer window and suggested that it better to spend big money at the end of the season and not in the middle of it. She has told of the challenges of attracting high calibre players to West Ham saying the Hammers will have to delay being a club like Barcelona for now.

Writing in her football diary Brady says about the winter transfer window  “At this time, I’ve learnt from experience that you can’t rely on what you buy — even for £20m. Sometimes you’re lucky, but often not.

Speaking about the Coutinho move to Barcelona she said

“Frankly, it’s better to spend much more knowing for certain that what you’re buying are the proper goods  — in dodgy jeans or not — at the end of the season, rather  than  in the middle of it.”

“Liverpool’s American owners will decide whether Jurgen Klopp can spend the Coutinho cache, which will be paid £106m up front with add-ons to come. Would I tell him to spend the lot? Yes, I would, and so would West Ham’s owners. We believe that players are the starters, main course and dessert of any club that plans to serve its supporters well.”

“One problem for a team in our position is that to attract the highest-calibre players, we need the promise of big things to come.

It’s a promise we intend to keep — but, for today, we shall have to delay being Barcelona.”

  1. Oh dear.
She really doesn’t learn, does she?

  2. Silly old biddy will she. Never shut up

  3. She mentions “high calibre” players.Where are they?Snodgrass,Fonte?Over the seasons we have been told of interest in some of these players but, again, never spent the money to get them.Coutinho is high calibre at £146m,Van Dyke is high calibre at £75m,Pogba is high calibre at £89m,I could keep going, but I won’t.Our actual high calibre player is priced between £5-20m.The reality is that we are in a relegation battle and we certainly won’t attract high calibre players in the championship.Sorry Karren but you might watch a lot of football but you don’t see whats going on in other clubs.”High calibre” players-HUH.

  4. When will these people actually just shut the **** up and start delivering on the promises they made that were given largely to convince people that the move to the athletics bowl was necessary? Join the Real West Ham Fans Action Group everyone, and let’s try and rid ourselves of these liars.

    • 100% agree mate, and have joined already👍
Wouldn’t be at all surprised if we now get a coating from the board apologists😂😂

  5. A net spend which was about £70m over three years as calculated on this website does not suggest West Ham can promise a future above mid table at best. £20 to £25m pa buys 1 x a Ayew not a team that can challenge. The club are still burdened with the same debt as when G and S arrived -the difference being the interest payments are made direct to them rather than a bank. People see through the smokes and mirrors now and as they do the likelehoid of attracting top players diminishes. As for the necessity to sell in order to buy – what a farce. Oxford should be our future not cashed in on.
If we must sell then sell Carroll and Sakho – but don’t stall over silly amounts. Looking at their goal records and injury records anything north of £5m ea would be a great deal.

  6. Thinks its a glamour model posing on a directors chair in Bollywood 😂
Truth is waynetta we think you’re full of 💩 and want you out of our club with the other 2 muppets 😈 you will never deliver for this club ! Never !! Taking the pish about Barcelona sums you lot up really , just fek off and take the boardettes with you , 🚕🚕🚕

  7. What an idiot ..when the summer comes she will say it’s best to do business in January.. And so on ….. Lol

  8. That’s probably because Barcelona don’t pay for players with chocolate buttons and monopoly money.

  9. We don’t need High Calibre players know across the world. But we need talanyed players for right position willing to work. Dont have to spend £50m on 1 player but do have to spend more bc mkt.
And you board voted for top 6 to get more money remember that.
What we need is for our Chairwoman & men to stop slagging off our own players bc that doesn’t help recruitment!
Moyes even thought to want Snod back bc Antonio injury to have right side player but why would he come Scottish link & Style might of worked.

Bit what wee need is some funds. Take that £20m didn’t spend on Carvalho & add it we can get 2-4 decent players for £45m
But can’t offer a loan deal to a £40m valued player etc.
Like Dendockner they have shown have played his price up in down asking £27m now bet if went in w £20m could get things moving they might accept.
Just have to apadt to the mkt & don’t burn your bridges

  10. Now I can’t stand Tory girl or the muppets, but there is a message somewhere within these rumblings which resonates with me.
Truth told we cannot attract top players because we are not a top club challenging for honours or European football. Doesn’t matter what promises these clowns made three years ago, we are where we are and more fool us for believing a word of their shyte.
We need to get lucky more with signings. Arnie is one such example, as were both Payet and Antonio (what became of them?). Our level is such currently that we cannot expect to go out and get proven quality. And when we do find one, the muppets balls it up anyway.
I’m more concerned that the wrong players could leave in January now. We must keep Lanzini, Antonio and Oxford and not sell those with the highest potential. If Sakho leaves, good. Ditto Ayew. Mixed feelings around Chic and Carroll as both will need replacing and not sure that will happen. And give Ginge another year ffs.
