Lanzini blow raises fresh Wilshere speculation

Speculation that West Ham could reconsider a move for Jack Wilshere is on the rise following the injury to Manu Lanzini.

Despite the club having made it clear that the player’s own injury record is more than suspect, the talk has now restarted seeing he is the sort of playmaker the club could need in Lanzini’s absence.

The 26 year old is a free agent this summer and is still holding out on a new deal offered by the north Londoners.

He is currently on £120k a week and Arsenal want him to take a 25 per cent pay cut but talks have failed with boss with first Arsene Wenger and now Unai Emery.

Meanwhile – according to Italian media outlets -Juventus have moved in with an offer of around £70k a week which is unlikely to tempt him out of London leaving the Hammers with a chance of snatching him away should they decide to make a move.

However, a Hammers source continues to claim that given the injury issues he has suffered it could be too much of a risk although a temptation remains given his free agent status.

  1. If Wilshere thinks he’s still worth £120k a week with his injury record he’ll find himself unemployed when his contract is up. £70k a week is a pretty good deal, if he’s turned it down he’s more of a mug than first thought.

  2. He played 38 games last season. A lot more than quite a few of our own players. Lanzini 27, Kouyate 33, Obiang 22, noble 29. Doesn’t seem much to worry about.

  3. We should go for him, especially if we off load Carroll. That way his wages are easier to absorb if he plays even 30% more games than AC, personally I think he’d give us more value for money and improve our ball retention and passing accuracy no end!

  4. Here’s a long shot for WHU.

For the price of a bag of crisps, sign 19yo Iranian-born Australian Daniel Arzani from Melbourne City (Man C owned) to replace Lanzini in 2018/19. Only 24 A-League games and one international to date with a goal and assist in a win against Hungary, but this kid is something very special. He’s a spirited winger/attacking midfielder who oozes class. He wouldn’t be with WHU for long before moving up.

Let’s hope Australia take a chance on him in Russia instead of the usual plonkers in Matthew Leckie and Robbie Kruse – he will surpass Aaron Mooy and Tommy Rogic within a year.
