London Stadium: Empty seats – Sit where you like

emptyAway from the disastrous on the pitch results is a related phenomenon of season ticket holders not turning up for games. West Ham boasts 52,000 season ticket holders at the London Stadium but many of these are already giving the games a miss on the third home Premier League match. Empty white seats can be seen scattered around the whole ground which certainly run into the hundreds, possibly over a thousand.

While the official capacity was recorded as 56,864 that only relates to tickets sold and not supporters through the turnstiles.

Obviously the lack of ticket trader is a factor but you have to ask why so many season tickets are missing games so early in the season. During August you would expect a number of families to be on holiday but the school holiday season has passed.

I know of a number of band 5 season ticket holders who paid just £289 for this season who can now sit where they want. With a completely open stadium and no checks on entering any block, they can pick and choose which seat they can sit in during a game with some choosing empty band 1 £899 seats and even a few £1,100 1966 seats.

  1. I’m at the very back of BM upper, row 63, block, 252, only about 6 seats taken in the entire row yet against Bournemouth it was packed….

  2. Counting Season Ticket holders as being present whether they’re there or not is what Arsenal have done for years – the ‘powers that be’ want things to be as positive as possible even though the hordes of empty seats display their dishonesty.

Having said that the game was live on Sky, the Ticket Trader system is still not working and the trains were scewed up on the Southend line – pretty lame I know but you can understand why some people didn’t fancy the hassle!

Oh, I nearly forgot – and the Team are possibly playing their worst ever Football, even worse than the BFS teams at their direst – and boy that’s really saying something!

  3. Hi first time writer here! In my sons football team a couple of kids have season tickets but their arsenal supporters!! The reason they have them is that there so cheap it was worth buying just to see arsenal and a couple of other big teams! How many more like this? Also does anybody know whats happened to sakho? How long does it take to get fit?!!

  4. It’s September, kids back at school, cheap flights, us 50 somethings are off on holiday. I handed my ST to my 30 year old daughter at the Southampton game and fly off Tuesday. She has the job of offering it around to any takers amount friends and family.
I think the empties are that fans on holiday can’t get anyone to use their seats. It’s not that us “committed customers” are passing up the opportunity to be miserable.

  5. Watching the game yesterday i started to think that football is becoming a non-contact sport, nearly every tackle Moss was blowing his f##king whistle. In no way am i blaming that on another shocking performance, it’s just frustrating when he kept pulling the game up& showing yellow cards for nothing challenges. There were no naughty tackles in the whole game yet we received 5 yellows.

    • Essex I think all our yellows were for arguing with that prat of a ref !! Yet He allowed Redman twice to berate him and then get away with a terrible retribution tackle. Still! That has to be the worst performance Ive seen in a claret and blue shirt for many a day. I’ve been a supporter since 1958 And apart from Adrian not one deserved to wear the shirt.
AT A TOTAL LOSS.. How can the same team play so badly..Reid got caught out up field and was not even jogging back Strolling Don’t want rid of Bilic THE players have a lot to answer for..

  6. Another Bad Steward day at London Stadium, I ask a Steward if i could go to the dugout where my Autistic Son was ( he was with friends) Collecting Autographs, and she refused to let me past, so I told her to use common sense, she still refused so I told her the Old School Steward were so much more ****ing Better than you outta Kinda Garden Stewards, to which she stuck two Fingers up at me, Now normally I would have turned the other Cheek, but the Stewarding at the London Stadium is so Unfriendly. I complained to Herbie an Old School Chief Steward from Upton Park (Formal Complaint) , I expect a bit of understanding but these new Arsenal Supporting Stewards just love to wind up us Cockney Lads, and it needs to be Address properly, David Gold needs to sort this Anti Social Attitude out, – And i did blow a Fuse at the time and Swear, but through Simple anger at not being aloud to collect my Boy – West Ham is a Shambles at this present Moment and i;m one Angry Fan
