Mawson deal now in doubt

Swansea centre-back Alfie Mawson’s switch to West Ham now appears to be in doubt Claret and Hugh has learned.

The manager and his director of football Mario Housillos want a second new central defender but have reservations about tabling a £20 million bid for a second player from a relegated club – Swansea.

The club this morning announced the arrival of keeper Lukasz Fabianski but Pellegrini is not comfortable with a second Swans player joining given their fate last season.

However, he still believes another central defender is required but is looking at players who have yet to appear on the media radar!

Twenty four year old Mawson would cost the Hammers over £25m in transfer fees and over £60,000 per week in wages.

And despite a £20 million bid having been lodged it now seems the Hammers could well pull out on the deal with club insiders claiming that although there could be a change of heart the switch now looks unlikely.

  1. Great news, never fancied this fella tbh.

  2. That’s a shame, I like Mawson.

  3. For me it’s the right call, if manager doesn’t fancy him don’t go in for him.

  4. I just saw a report linking us with a CDM from Juventus for £17.5 m Stefano Sturaro if so maybe good news for Rice as he can fill the CB slot instead of Mawson

  5. I am happy a) that most of our names are off the radar and b) that we are cooling on Mawson

Don’t worry Hugh I see no problem in you posting if you hear something (or else someone else will post anyway) but feel that we stand to get a better deal if we keep below the radar

Also I’m sure that many rumours in fact come from agents trying to drum up interest

  6. I genuinely can’t see that at this late stage they would use that as the reason. If it were the case they would never have looked at him. Saying he isn’t good enough is fine but not that we won’t take 2 from a relegated side. That Argentina side would get relegated from how they played the other night but I would take most of that side. We got relegated with David James, Carrick, Sinclair, Defoe, Di Canio, Kanoute, Glen Johnson & Joe Cole. Guessing that most of us would agree that we would take any of these in their prime now even if they were from a relegated side?

  7. There are no forums if we don’t have things to talk about, whether than be speculation or reflecting on something that has happened. Personally, I like the way they have gone about the Fabianski and Diop deals, professional and got it done; bodes well for the boss getting the additional targets he has identified. This is how’ve it should be!!
