Moyes calling tune over Sullivan

|

MoyesnoteDavid Moyes has made it clear again that he wants to “buy British” David Sulivan’s punts on South Americans and the like should become a thing of the past.

The Hammers boss has made it clear previously that he would far sooner bring in proven PL Brits in the current window and the foreign excursions now appear to be a thing of the past.

Speaking ahead of the Bournemouth game he said: “Somewhere along the line you have to say, ‘No, stop – we are not doing that, we are following the path we want to go on’.

He added:  “I want to bring in good players but I would also like to have a little bit of a model.

“Somewhere along the line you have to say ‘no, stop – we are not doing that, we are following the path we want to go on’.

“I’m the one that makes the decisions.

“You have got to look towards the future and I want to be positive but I am mindful that the trapdoor is not too far away.

Moyes determination to bring in more home grown players again acts as a reminder against much of the gossip generated in the foreign press of his interest in European stars.

A proven player from the EPL or Championship, generally speaking, seems a safer bet than players from elsewhere unless they are exceptional in one of the top European or South American teams, although one should always keep a flexible attitude.

Agree max , he’s got that wrong hasn’t he , its ironic that the top teams have a majority of foreign players , the problem is the money ! Name a forward who can compare to aguero , Jesus , morata, Sanchez, etc ? You know , the type to take you to the next level lol!
Add the same scenario to the midfield and the defence and were not reaching that pinnacle are we , our best players are foreigners lofl ! Maybe Moyes is spouting the wishes of Sullivan to not spend because we all know he can’t give him next level money , he’s IMO maybe sucking up , who wouldn’t want carvhalo , dendonker , smolov , type players , ? Sorry but Moyes comments are not to my liking , but music to Sully’s ffs 👎 don’t get me wrong I would love a all British team but that era has been tossed out of the window , today’s game is about money , instant success and the demise of the national team ! Full of promising flops ! Mainly spuds who only perform well in a team full of foreign teammates who make them tick
Like our team ? Dig deep and deliver what you promised Sullivan or fek off !!! 😈

Agree Max & Laz like the idea but can’t get all our players British have to take chances on players across Europe & elsewhere & we have seen it can pay off.
Just not always British players for sale in what is needed or that won’t sell them.
Has to be a in btwn a nice mix. Is this what holding us on Dendockner Henry is keen on him & even Moyes says can take any player a while to gel.
I’m all for getting young British talent like Maddison but I don’t want to buy 30yo plus been down that road & need to keep eye on future like Moyes as also said.
Shelvey isn’t first choice but for sale now & Moyes wants him hope we are in negotiations w some players but we have to start making moves bc British or not we are 2-3 players getting injured & being in a bad way
Either way we need to start making buys

I don’t think he is saying he won’t buy big name players, just that in the future he would rather buy players with talent that can fit into the team and should be ready in 6 months, that was the model the Liverpool of the 70’s and 80’s had also, I would like to see if it still works. We cannot compete with the top 6 or 7 in terms of transfer fees, until we have regular European football that will always be the case, I personally think if he can do what he did at Everton that will work wonders for us, it should also mean good things for our youngsters.

It’s all about supply and demand. If we need a certain type of player, he will rightly look to homegrown choices, but if there is not the right layer there at the right price, he will go further abroad. Just the same as Allerdyce really, except Moyes has more money to spend on homegrown quality ( who are usually more expensive ).
