Moyes: “Not good enough – we need to improve everything”

Moyes1David Moyes delivered a damning verdict on the hammers after his first game in charge snapping: ” I just didn’t think it was good enough, that level wont be good enough.”

And he added: It’s tough for the players, I can sense that, I didn’t enjoy the performance in the end. I didn’t enjoy it, we gave the ball away too cheaply too many times and I expected us to do better.

We tried to stay in the game, in the recent past we haven’t stayed in them. so we could give ourselves a chance and we probably did even at 2-0.

We need to improve everything. I mentioned about giving the ball away,we turned it over cheaply. I thought we defended OK but then we gave away cheap goals.

The first goal we get bumped off the ball just about three times, three half challenges and we don’t deal with it. The second one, I think Zabaleta went in for a cross and before we knew it, they were running at us.

I knew it would be a big job. I think there were some players with big reputations that disappointed me a little bit, I thought they will show me more and why they play in the team regualrly.

Today was the first time I had a chance to see them play and I think they need to show me if that’s the reputation you have, show me why you have got it.”

  1. At least a realistic assessment of the performance, unlike the drivel we got from Bilic

  2. I think it was Reid who made the weak header for goal 2. Anyway, so much for ‘new manager bounce’. Trust West Ham- we have never even managed one of those. Just some positive signs would have been nice…

  3. Well it was a big ask to win today. While playing Carroll & Noble both are busted flushes & cannot. Keep up with the fast pace of today’s game we need younger legs who are willing to have a go at the opposition when not in possession of the ball. I bet the two David’s are wondering exactly how much they will have to spend to acquire some decent players to keep us in the Premiership. It is their own fault they knew the team was crap last season & did nothing, they should have sacked Bilic in the summer then a new manager would have had longer to rebuild the team, I can only hope Moyes has a game plan & crucially he is given the money to bring in much. Needed fit hungry players to save us.

    • I would rather have Noble playing than either Kouatye and Obiang. They have been awful pretty much all season and today was the culmination of that.

      • I would rather have mother Kelly playing instead of noble ! He’s done , finished , time to hang the boots up , Nolan mk 2 , only worse !!

      • I think Noble made one interception all game, that was from a misplaced pass where he was in the way and not a single tackle, he received plenty of passes most of which he passed backwards or sideways or tried to impersonate Scott Parker with his 360 degree turn. He shows for everything which is good but he is only affecting the game when we have won the ball back, he couldn’t read a nursery rhyme let alone a football match, there was a cavernous space in front of defence where he was bypassed easilly as he has been most of his career, he and Kouyate are luxury players they look good when they have time and space but do little when you analyse them more closely, Kouyate at least has a decent engine on him and should have scored twice today but in reality we need a Carvalho to play alongside Obiang, Fernandes hasn’t showed yet he has the bite in the challenge but he would be step up from Noble or Kouyate in terms of ball retention and passing, or play Rice as a DM he reads the game very well, he makes mistakes because he is inexperienced as is Fernandes but better to skip the old guard now and get the new guard the experience, and drop either Reid or Ogbonna and play a right sided CB alongside i.e. Collins or Rice plus Masuaku for Cresswell. We are inbetween a rock and a hard place right now, I think Moyes will get us out of it but maybe 17th will be a good finish after all, I think there is room for optimism in that we have a manager who isn’t willing to accept mediocrity from his players and that is refreshing after the last two years of dross.

  4. He’s obviously talking about the regulars !!shame we haven’t got any replacements !! Now youve seen it Moyes ! In the flesh ! As if it was any different against Liverpool lol! What do you intend to do ! Nothing mate !!!! Absolutely nothing , if the barrowboys don’t dig deep in Jan you and the club are in deep doodoo !! Have you got the bolloxxx to drop the obvious and if you do who you gonna play ?
You cannot play players without pace in the prem !!!

  5. ‘Not good enough….we need to improve everything’. What acerbic analysis from a FIFA qualified coach and highly successful (hoho) top-end manager. Actually the team played pretty much as they did under Slaven. So what has Moyes delivered in the past two weeks by way of insightful, inspirational coaching strategy? Rhetorical.

  6. Yes. In two weeks with half the squad at his disposal, Moyes should have us playing a millions times better than our 18 months long form.
    Rhetorical.

  7. Ps. We get Moyes and Everton want Marco Silva. Funny that….if Moyes’ reign at Everton was so effing brilliant for the Toffees why didn’t Kenwright implore him to return? Maybe it’s because Kenwright appreciates that Moyes is ‘old school’ and his club are seeking a progressive coaching influence. Nah…that can’t be right.

  8. ‘Yes in two weeks…etc’ well, Master, you have a point, and its valid: respect. But the same ‘time excuses’ were made for Slaven until the writing was on the wall. Moyes will not pull off the spectacular with The Irons. He hasn’t got it in his repertoire. He proved that when he left the comfort of Goodison and f’d up elsewhere. Moyes couldn’t replicate Goodison within different club cultures and in different contexts. Giving Moyes time is simply not the issue here. Lazarus Salmon-like is on point: a team without pace in the PL is a team bound for relegation.

    • If he puts Fernandes, Sakho, Rice and Masuaku in the team he will have more pace than at present but he is inheriting this team its not his, maybe he can buy some raw pace in January, if the team read the game better that need for pace wouldn’t be so dire. Bilic is responsible for the transfers, he sold all the pace or let it return on loan, he also stuck with the big ego’s instead of forging a team with the players he had at his disposal. Moyes needs time and support from us and the chairmen. His ideas might be old school but right now its old school backbone we need and a team that works hard, we created three pure goal chances in the middle of the box today I can’t remember the last time we created a single good chance under Bilic can you ?

  9. Saw nothing today that provides any hope. No style of play, not particularly solid and the space we gave Hughes ,and did nothing to correct, was embarrassing. This is Watford thank Christ it wasn’t citeh.
Something remains not right since Payet left. Too many look like they don’t care and I remain of the view we will need to go down clear out and build around our youth team.
By the way what the hell in wrong with Carroll-looks like he is on a continual mission to get sent off. Please to god start with sakho on Friday…

    • You might be right Pablo about rebuilding in the championship, we are ironically one of the clubs that should be affected less because our deal of the century means we pay less for the stadium if we go down, not that it is the desireable option of course but we could get shot of the deadwood and keep the rest, I did actually see our team opening up their bodies more when receiving the ball (in the first half) and trying to move the ball quicker, we also strung more passes together consistently even though overall our ball retention was still very poor and first touch likewise, so I could see that changes are being tried to be made, it is going to take a long time to get things right, Leicester are not an ideal team but when you are not playing well there is no such thing anyway, every game we play now we have to try and get something from it, even if we are losing 3 nil try and get a goal, try to do something positive because every positive thing is something to build on and it looks likely to be a very long season for us, we are West Ham has it ever been different ? COYI !!!

  10. A ‘big job’ is an understatement – the Team looked pathetic today – old, slow and lacking in fight, midfield in particular are a shambles – Kouyate, Nonle and Obiang are one-paced and plodding with virtually no creativity, power or pace coming from them – Moyes is going to have to work miracles!

  11. Created 3 good chances today, with Lanzini and Arnie. Add Antonio, Ayew and hernandez, we are OK going forward imho. Defense has rice, byram, collins and fonte to return.

That midfield is the best we have and it’s rubbish. We need 3 new bodies for there in jan. Or someone to step up from the u23s.

    • On the midfield front as I have said many times before he could drop Lanzini into Noble’s position to play like a Modric, he will show more for Obiang and more likely to produce a better transition from defence to attack at the moment Obiang is covering too much space because Noble is never in the right place, I have always felt he plays better from deeper positions than he does at number 10, for a player with his ability he creates very few assists.

  12. Sack the board,sack Moyes,Demolish the LS,change the strip to pink & green,new badge & we might,just might stay up 😂

  13. please . it’s bad enough watching him on the pitch, without taking notice of all his other bolleaux too. The world is crumbling around us Rads, but luckily it’s not the real world lol. I still think Moyes will carve something out of this shower, but he needs to do some pruning.

  14. Moyes will get us out of it Fishy. Not my preferred choice of a manger but he wasnt going to perform miracles in one match 😀
10th or 11th place by the end of the season, trust me im a vicar 😁

  15. We were absolutely dire, no creativity, no pace, we lacked passion, AC is a waste of space and I hope the board take him with them when they f**k off… After saying all that we were better than I’ve seen in a while so dire yes but I saw an improvement…..laughable really but that’s where we’re at. I think Moyes has a huge task ahead and has already made a slight difference…..

  16. Moyes has only taken charge of ONE premier league game as West Ham manager. I know the premier league football manager turnover is high, but this is ridiculous. Let’s try to be positive, at least we only conceded 2 goals this time. That’s gotta be an improvement.
