Moyes thrilled but warns: “We’ve got a long way to go”

moyes6David Moyes is thrilled with the progress the team is making and absolutely delighted with the performance at Huddersfield.

Speaking after the game he said:ย We’ve got a long way to go, but the players have done brilliantly well since we came in and a lot of praise must go to them. I thought they were terrific today, beating an opponent who was one of the teams around us in the league, so it’s really important.โ€

“I’m really pleased with Marko. Everybody told me he hadn’t performed before I came, but everybody knew how good he was at Stoke City, and that’s why we paid a big fee for him. Giving him a freer role up front has given him a chance to show other sides to his game as well, with the effort and the way he has worked.

“Manu could have played him in a couple of times in the first half but he didnโ€™t get the pass. In the end, it was Marko playing in Lanzini to score, so his all-round play was very good. He’s done really well.

“The two centre forwards were a threat all day. Every time it went to them, it looked like they were causing problems. It was a real, terrific team effort. Everyone worked hard and did their jobs and I have to praise them all.”

Moyes confirmed that Arnautovicโ€™s goal just seconds into the second half was the turning point of the game.

He added: “Undoubtedly the goal in the opening seconds of the second half was a game-changer. You need bits to go for you in football matches and we got a goal right from the kick-off, which gave us a great start to the second half.”

“I think you stay up in the division by winning your home games and we’ve sorted it out in the main and have picked up there, but when you’re not doing that you’ve got to win a few games away from home.

“We’ve had a couple of really good wins away from home and we’re also scoring goals. We are a threat and have people capable of it, and people on the bench capable of it as well, so at this moment in time I think we’re capable of scoring.

“I’d like to give them better service, so let’s keep hoping that we keep winning the games that we need to.”

  1. The better service quote sounds encouraging ! Let’s hope we get them soon !
The lad bentdoctor , smolov and carvhalo will do ๐Ÿ˜‰ then introduce the young ones into the fold gradually ! It can all change overnight as long a sully gives Moyes the dosh ! Its so important he does and not what Brady was hinting at today ! Huddersfield were poor and I expected a tougher game than that but who gives a toss when we hit four goals and pocketed 3 points and 11th ! Same again next week and the pressure should start easing and the performances get better ! V Shrewsbury shouldn’t be forgotten, Arnie , lanzini were the difference today , a joy to see but we need new blood and Moyes keeps saying the right things in his summaries
Regarding the midfield ! The quicker the better ! ? ๐Ÿ˜€

  2. What a brilliant, stunning performance..
I agree with my mate Laz, re: Bentdonger, Smolov, and Carvalho coming to West Ham.
Soon we will have Antonio, Holland, Fernandes, Martinez, and the best of the U-23’s..
If we survive this season, a top 6 position is on the cards for next season!

  3. I agree that the performance was very encouraging. But as the first half showed we are well short of the finished article. If we are to be an established top half – let alone top six- side that midfield needs some work (& we are still 15 points short of safety). At the moment as Moyes keeps saying we are well off for forwards. Yes but not really. One is an injury liability, one doesn’t want to be here & one does not seem to fit the system (& looks to me well past his best). Arnie is doing a great job but yesterday’s dynamic duo will need help. Seeing Brady’s comments reinforced my gut feeling that the owners will see the recent improvement as the excuse for doing nothing in the window. I hope they will prove me wrong but Walcott seems to be off to Everton after being ‘linked’ with us. They have already snapped up the guy Tosun who looks half decent. Fed up with the attitude of ‘Oh hang on let’s see if we can muddle through again’. I don’t remember that being on the agenda back in 2010. Three good quality players needed imo. Two minimum.

    • totally agree about our strikers, but I think Moyes is being diplomatic. He knows that Sahko wants out and he knows Hernandes from before, so he would sell them both for the right price, only if he could get one suitable replacement for the combined fee for two.
He can’t say what he thinks in public, in case they don’t go. Then he wants them on board.
I still think he is desderate for a Dendonder and a Russian striker ( whose name I forget ). Also now Antonio’s problem is not responding, he wants another right-sided attacker.

  4. Let’s all hope Walcott is off to Everton, because that will stop Antonio from going there!
And REALITY CHECK please ffs – 6th place next season with three top signings coming in this January? Think Laz’s irony has been lost on you Max because we all know we won’t secure any of them bud.
Laz was right in saying Huddersfield were nothing short of shyte yesterday. They made all of the individual errors which we have been prone to all season long. Stupid goal kick, stupid defending for another two of our goals and looked naive throughout.
Great win and great three points but we’ve the same issues we had at five to three yesterday, so we need to calm down. Our defending for their goal was a joke, from Noble running in completely the wrong direction to Creswell being on another pitch(?) through to Ogbonna failing to close down sooner. I replayed their goal a few times and Noble’s effort is hilarious, do watch it!
We now need to turn one win into two or three, something we have been unable to do all season. Back it up now Moyes and the boys and be consistent. If we can pull clear before the end of the month then perhaps, maybe, a couple of decent players might be less reluctant to come to us, seeing we aren’t so much of a risk.
Finally, anyone got any idea on our goals conceded or points per game with and without Reid? I’m starting to wonder if we are harder to score against when he is missing!

    • It would be a better to also have a comparison of goals conceded Reid on left side vs Reid on right side or central

    • Its what noble brings to the table jimbo ? New blood sees him moved upstairs or moved on?
Luvley bloke , one of us and a great servant but his days are numbered when new blood comes in, its a shame but that’s life , when you loose you’re pace and try to compensate you make mistakes ! If we see it Moyes has ! Hence his wish to strengthen the m/f. ๐Ÿ˜‰

  5. Thought the same thought jimbo a few times now lol! Who,s the stats man on here ?JRS is my man for info ! Top bloke !! Even if we do need a enigma decoder from bletchly !! ๐Ÿ˜‚๐Ÿ˜‚
    Sybil ain’t bad neither ๐Ÿ˜‚๐Ÿ˜‚

  6. Well we can rule out carvhalo who its transpired we could have secured for 25 mill , peanuts ,
But sully wouldn’t go above 23 ? Muppet !! West ham have ruled him out in the Jan window and sporting have said he’s going to cost more in the next window and is not moving in Jan ?
Babacar has been linked for 15 mill and Moyes is interested from fiorentina ? How true that is in silly season is open to debate but carvhalo was cheap at 25 mill but appears to be history now ? Cheers sully ? Top negotiator and vision extreme ๐Ÿ˜œ
