Much improved Hammers big winners on points

Great first half from Masuaku

Masuaku – CandH man of the match

Hammers 0 Everton 0

We’d have take before the game and perfectly content with it now following a well organised and nerve-less performance from the boys.

Slaven Bilic was of course forced to make several changes with Andy Carroll, Mark Noble and  Sam Byram out leaving the likes of Ayew, Fernandes and Calleri with points to prove…and they did.

There was more energy and fluidity about the Hammers  who have looked predictable over recent games with Carroll in the lone striker role.

And whilst the Irons didn’t create great chances there was a real purpose about them and defensively Lukaku and friends weren’t even part of the script with the Irons bogeyman never being given a sniff.

Calleri led the line well for an hour before Diafra Sakho arrived for the last 30 minutes looking strong and eager. Whatever the injury was that had kept him out until Thursday when he apparently returned to training, it wasn’t a lot.

He looked fit and strong and this will have set him up for the match at Stoke next weekend who were beaten at Swansea and are currently on a run of one win from six games.

Man of the match unquestionably for me was Arthur Masuaku whose quick feet saw him producing some classy tricks before moving forward and setting up some decent Irons attacks.

James Collins gave a master class at the back and was constantly pushing and shoving team mates into threatening positions at set pieces – a real leader.

Lanzini too was on the case all afternoon and just needs to add some goal scoring to his game. Adrian returned and had next to nothing to do whilst the rest of the team made more than sufficient impact.

Good performance…good game with Irons the clear winners on points.

  1. Nordveidt also had a good game, in his normal position. Shame Swansea and Hull won. A bit more ambition today and we could have won that game. We completely nullified Everton but we’re lacking in the final third.

    • Swansea and Hull winning keeps Stoke and Watfordfvery much in sight, so these results favour us.The big Bournemouth win was the problem apart from us not gaining the deserved 1-0 🙂

  2. Pleased with a point against our bogey team today 👍 Even more pleased Randolph was benched. Hopefully this will install some confidence in our play and we go on a little run for the rest of the season ….. until the big clear out in the summer!

  3. Never thought I would ever agree to Masuaku as MOM, but he was immense today. He is better as a wing back than as full back, because he has struggled against any good opposition defensively, but today he was very effective. Agree to that Nordveit was also playing his best game for us so far.
I thought we played some of our best football of the season, so it’s a pity that we didn’t score. I wont complain though because we played so well.
I am very happy to be proved wrong, I could never see that coming.
I wonder if the last few games will help Nordveit and Masuaku prove themselves at last.

  4. Lanzini didn’t impress me defensively. Needs to do both jobs to be a complete player.

  5. No complaints from me with a point.I thought we were by far the better team and our back three lads were superb.
I will enjoy my few scotches tonight fairly satisfied and leave you other buggers to find the negatives, as is normally the case even after a more than decent performance lol

  6. Would be nice to go into next season with 2 very good LBs, an extra reliable CMD player ( Nordveit ), Fernandes ready to steal the show, 3 performing CBs, At least one good keeper, We still need a right-back and a striker. We have some youngsters too, in Cullen, Quina and Rice coming through.

  7. James Collins mom by a country mile.
Nordvelt also very good- first time in proper position- grew in confidence and got bettter and better. Bilic still doing odd stuff- cresswell on at right back for kyoute when we looked like we should be pushing on to win the game.
    Fenandes also very good.

  8. Think Kayoute was carrying a knock and was off the pace, think Bilic made the right call to replace him especially given our record of conceding late goals

  9. Kouyate took a knock early doors didnt he if my dodgy old memory serves me right.Im sure it was him anyway.
