New feature: Introducing the Irons Under 23s

We are today introducing a new feature to the site which will allow readers get to know the Under 23 squad a lot better than perhaps they do now. Josh Southon kicks things off with a look at stopper Nathan Trott – currently on loan at AFC Wimbledon.

Nathan Trott is currently out on loan to AFC Wimbledon of course and is considered one of the most promising young stoppers in the country by many good judges.

There’s little doubt that he is seen as the No2 to Lukasz Fabianski in time .

He was snapped up on loan by AFC late on in the window and has had a tough introduction to life over there conceding six goals in four games as manager Wally Downes – defensive coach at the Hammers for a while – has seen his team slip to 21st in League One.

But although it’s been a tough gig so far, the reports we have received are that he’s done really well and is seriously well liked by the fans

Nathan was born in Bermuda and joined Valencia’s Academy squad after being spotted at a satellite academy that was run by the Spanish club. He was recommended to West Ham by Clyde Best and secured a four year deal for the  in March 2019 after advancing from the u21s.

He will be out on loan at AFC Wimbledon until May 31st 2020, while being at Wimbledon he hasn’t had as much playtime as originally expected  he’s still getting played a fair amount, coming in at 57% of the time he’s part of the starting 11, he’s had 1 clean sheet among the 6 goals against his name.

The 20 year old was originally a midfielder during his schoolboy days but ended up in goal due to his distribution skills and shot stopping expertise.

Nathan switched nationality in 2017 to England and was part of the Young Lions squad that won the UEFA European U19 Championship in June of the same year.
