Former Hammer Roy Stoud – who was the oldest surviving West Ham player died in sleep in Devon age 90.
During the second world war he was a guest player for Arsenal, Stroud then played for Hendon before moving to West Ham in February 1952 under Ted Fenton and making his debut against Notts County on 14 April 1952
Stoud earned the princely sum of just £12 per week in wages.
Roy’s time at the Hammers was dogged by injury and after a total of 15 games and four goals he left West Ham to join Chelmsford City in 1957.
According to West Ham retro magazine Ex Hammers Frank O’Farrell is now the oldest living Hammer, the former wing half of the fifties will be 88 on October 9th.
