Pellegrini turns sights on central defence again

Manuel Pellegrini remains keen to bring in another central defender to the club  despite the arrival of Issa Diop for a £21 million fee.

The manager believes that despite Manu Lanzini’s injury, which may have seen him stretching his financial resources to cover that position, he still needs a second central defender.

It means that either Winston Reid – often hit by injury – or the sometimes inconsistent Angelo Ogbonna maybe on the way out afte the manager has been told he will receive the cash from all sales.

Both seem vulnerable with possibly Ogbonna the marginal ‘favourite’ to move on,  leaving Reid, Declan Rice or the chosen new signing to partner the £21 year old Frenchman.

The manager intends to take a good close up look at the present squad on pre-season which starts o Monday with a pre-season camp in Switzerland.

Rice – with new contract speculation circulating – will be a special object of his attention after the rave reports surrounding him last season at both club and international level.

  1. Can’t see it being Ogbonna at risk he can play football Reid is on a higher salary and often injured better to free up the wages.
