Pellegrini wants urgent talks with ‘key player’

|

Manuel Pellegrini will be holding urgent talks with Chichartito once Mexico’s involvement in the World Cup is at an end.

The striker was widely quoted last week when refusing to comment on the new manager’s appointment making it clear that his only focus at the moment was on the Russian tournament.

Refusing to be drawn on David Moyes’ departure and the Chilean’s arrival, he said that everybody would have to wait and see how things worked out.

The manager, meanwhile, is diametrically opposed to David Moyes in tactical style and sees Hernandez as one of the best in the world at what he does – scoring goals.

And he will bring a brand of ‘on the floor style’ with the aim of feeding balls into a front pairing of Chicharito and Marko Arnautovic.

Indeed, he sees the Mexican as a key player to have at the club and will keen to get together with himĀ  and assure him of his future.

And although Chicharito speaks good English he and the manager share Spanish as their mother tongue which can help the upcoming meeting.

‘On the floor style’. That would seem to rule out another of the club’s strike force. It will be nice to have a distinct style again, but there are one or two hard decisions to be made. If we carry on with both as we did last season nobody is happy. And nobody really knows what we are trying to achieve. I would suggest this is what people mean by ‘An elephant in the room’ but that would be in very poor taste. And you could never accuse Hernandez of looking like an elephant.
