Player abuse – It doesn’t help!

carrollWest Ham fans waited to ambush Andy Carroll as he came out of Vicarage Road ground on Sunday to give him verbal abuse after the two-nil defeat.

It came after away fans booed players during the game and sung ‘You’re not fit to wear the shirt’ during the game.

Many West Ham players are constantly trolled on social media while some say they have been abused while out in restaurants or out in public with their families.

My question to these fans is what do you want to achieve from this abuse? Do you feel your actions will somehow motivate these players to play better or fight for the badge and club more?

Yes, they are highly paid professionals but they are also human beings and to suggest this constant abuse has no effect on their performances on the pitch is naive at best.

We have to remember the players are not West Ham fans, they are athletes who want the best for their careers. They need our support and appreciation to get the best out of them.

Whatever we might think of certain individual players and their lack of commitment it should be up to our manager to sort it out and decide who gets to wear the shirt and not make matters worse by abusing them in public at every opportunity!

  1. As I said yesterday, love him or hate him, Nobles game is diminishing and he looks drained, because of the constant unfair abuse shoved at him by morons among our own ‘ supporters ‘.

  2. Carroll decided to criticise the fans. He followed that up by producing one of the most inept, unprofessional displays we have seen. Surely he is not going to complain now that he doesn’t like the fans reactions? He should have considered that he is a striker that hasn’t scored for seven months before telling fans what they should and shouldn’t be doing after they had payed their hard earned cash to keep him in his millionaire lifestyle for delivering next to nothing.

  3. Bolloxxx? Open you’re eyes and have a good look ! I’m getting sick of listening to comments about noble doesn’t deserve the criticism he receives , like him you’re all in self denial , its because of him and a few others were not moving on , not good enough to wear the shirt is a understatement , noble needs to look in the mirror and say , that’s it I’m done , I can’t achieve what is required on the pitch and step down ! Make no mistake he knows this and is reluctant to admit it !! Its remarks like that fishes about morons who actually know what their talking about make morons like you look a complete w####r !
This blog Sean is peppered for abuse all over it ! The only thing credible in it is the abuse with the family , that’s not on ! Let’s hear it for the noblettes 👏👏👏👏👏👏

  4. Some points I agree with both comments posted.i think it will take time for Moyes to turn it around.the board are going no where along with moyes.so what we must all do is fully support the manager and board.i personally think mark noble who has been a great servant to our club is five yards to slow now, along with obiang.carroll is overrated and looks like he has lost interest.arnie came out with the most credit from the weekend ,at least he did to try and play more for the team.i would really like to see some youth in the team .they will run their socks off to prove a point .this may improve the main stay players in the team.im not a happy hammer not by any means lots of things are so wrong.this will not change anytime soon .we MUST SUPPORT OUR BELOVED TEAM.WE WILL ALWAYS BE HERE THRU THICK AND THIN ! COYI

  5. God am I fed up with all this, it all seems rotten to the core, not sure how we got here but seems to me its getting worse. Quite frankly there is a life away from WHU and if this carries on I’ll be taking it. After Friday night due to various work and travel commitments I can’t come to the next four games, lending my ticket to a mate, frankly I’m pleased, can’t wait to get away from the place. so sad!

    • I’m with you mate. “Luckily” I coudn’t make the Brighton and Liverpool games and to be honest, I’m dreading Friday night. It really does all start from the players though.

Arnie, I thought improved on Sunday – the others were all dreadful. It seems as though there are some bad apples in the squad – a bit like the Pardew / Reo-Coker feeling a few years back. Kouyate hasn’t looked the same player for over a year now, Obiang has gone backwards and, you’re right, Noble looks off the pace. We need good, pacey, midfield players in the window and a quality defensive midfielder.

  6. I feel like PopRobson who has written a sensible comment. After a long career in refereeing came back 5 years ago as a season ticket holder. Yes the board raised expectations. Yes the last two years has not been great for transfers. Yes some harp for the old ground. But we are where we are. Over my 50 years as a supporter we have had similar seasons and times like this. unfortunately some of our supporters want to make it more toxic the abusive language at Watford makes me ashamed to be involved with WHU. Then l look at the football industry as a whole. Basically it’s all toxic . Clubs, players, media, fans all in this toxic mix. Comes down to money and tribal attitude. I love football but l also hate. It

  7. I’m afraid this is a bit too Mary Poppins for me Sean. Jack Collison, God Bless him, kicked Jimmy Kebe in the shins when he took the **** out of us at Reading and frankly should have been given a meddle for it. It showed his attitude was spot on. Andy Carroll however will equally easily get himself sent off… but it won’t be trhough his passion and love for The Irons, it will be through selfish frustration and stupidity. For me, when you criticise the fans you cross the line and are fair game. Does criticism motivate them? Only if they are men. Do we have a right to criticise them? Yes, we do. We pay their wages. Now you can say, most of the money comes from Sky etc but see how long the money rolls in when teams are playing in front of no fans in empty stadia with no atmosphere. We have every right to criticise. We’ll be there long after the players, the manager and the owners have gone. I think we should however be judicious in who we criticise. How they react? That then is up to them. It wil show us who are the Bonds and the Brookings and who are the Beauchamps and the Boogers.

  8. That says it all, Sean. No one should be subject to abuse, anywhere. But, these players must expect to receive criticism after their myriad abysmal performances. I was subject to professional criticism throughout my career. It was part of the continuous process of annual assessment. I expected it, & it was given. The purpose was to make us aware of where we were going wrong & where we could improve our performance. These are highly paid professionals. They are happy to take the cash & the celebrity status. They should be more than happy to receive criticism of poor performance, when it is justified, from the people who help to pay their salaries. But, not abuse.

  9. Goddy also lays it out in black & white where football, & West Ham (including some supporters) , are going wrong, in his comments.
