Poll: Aaron Creswell or Arthur Masuaku?

Aaron Creswell wasn’t at his best for much of last season but finished well whilst Arthur Masuaku performed admirably before an injury.

Who should start the season?

  1. Creswell is not 100% in defending, but Masuaku is easily worse. I can only imagine voters have been swayed by his dribbling and attacking contribution.
Masuaku was good in the last few games, mainly because he was playing as a wing-back rather than full-back, so he didn’t have to defend so much. It’s a pity he couldn’t play against Spurs or Liverpool, because then he could have proved himself at last as a defender ( or not ).
It seems we wil be playing 4 at the back again next season, so for me it has to be Cresswell.I would feel much safer with his marking positioning and tackling, than with Mauakus any time.

  2. It depends for me on whether it was the Cresswell of two seasons ago or last seasons Cresswell two seasons ago I would have said Cresswell, last season I would say Masuaku.

  3. Once Arthur (we really need to do some research into whether his actual name is ‘Fuka’ as I’ve seen reported in some African press) was fit last season, he was head and shoulders above Cresswell, both at the back and down the wing. His early games were marred by a nagging injury, so we shouldn’t judge him on those, and Cresswell was also a bit rusty when he came back.

But for me, it’s Masuaku to start. Head over heart.

  4. Cresswell was never the same when he came back from his injury – maybe another reason why the Medical Team has been shaken up – Masuaku when he came in did well, he had one dodgy game against West Brom but apart from that did really well.

I think it might be an idea to play them both of them, with two naturally left-footed players up and down that flank, full-backs and wing-backs nowadays have got to be really athletic, it’s probably the most difficult position with the need to be up and down the wing continually.

We’re lucky to have two such good left-footed players.

    • you obviously missed the Man U and Arsenal games. Lucky you lol
But I do agree we are lucky to have both competing for the position ( and let the best man win ), and they could certainly play together with Cressy behind Masuaku. Masuaku would make a very effective midfield attacker.

  5. Thing is with wing backs these days is that you have to take the rough with the smooth. Most of them aint defenders anymore, they are used as an attacking option.
You quite often read fans who say they want a fullback to be a defender & thats fair enough but it is living in the past it just aint what fullbacks are all about these days.
Im with 32 the Cresswell of two seasons ago is the one i would choose.Actually i thought he was getting a bit back to his old self near the end of the season.
We all know it will only take one mistake by the one who starts & there will be calls for the other one to start. The new seasons Randolph & Adrian debate maybe 😁😁
