Reid/Antonio miss out as rehab goes on

West Ham’s pre-season training started in Switzerland yesterday without Winston Reid and Michail Antonio being involved.

The squad went through a 00-minute session which ended with an an eleven-a-side training match, on a one-third size pitch.

The official site reports that initially the players were allowed just one touch, further testing their technical and movement skills. The ‘non-bibs’ beat the ‘yellow bibs’ 2-0, with goals from Jordan Hugill and Declan Rice.

Meanwhile, physiotherapist Dominic Rogan worked with Winston Reid, who is continuing his rehabilitation from the knee surgery he underwent after being hurt at Swansea City in March.

And  rehab fitness coach Eamon Swift did individual work with Michail Antonio, who suffered a hamstring injury while playing against Southampton later the same month.

Throughout the entire session, the players’ physical output was measured using GPS tracking, allowing the staff to monitor distance covered, sprints made, top speed and average speed.

  1. Do we know if both are going to be fit for the start of the season..? I’d love to see Antonio back to his best, but I think Reid needs competition as he was becoming too comfortable and maybe taking his place for granted,it will be interesting to see if he’s willing to stay and fight for a place,or go to pastures anew to get his desire back and possibly more game time.COYI
