The Irons are scouting Millwall defender Mahlon Romeo ahead of a possible £1.5 million January move.
We have reportedly sent scouts to check out the player three times – the latest on Saturday against Fleetwood during the London outfit’s 2-1 victory.
The right-back, 21, began his career with Arsenal before dropping down the divisions to play first-team football.
Now West Ham may be ready to give him a new chance at the top with Sam Byram, Michail Antonio, Havard Nortveidt and Alvara Arbeloa all having been used in the role this term.
An associate of mine (nearly called him a friend!) reckons this kid is the next big thing, but doesn’t see Millwall letting him go for anything like £1.5m – £5m more like. Difficult to tell when playing at league one I guess, but he is very highly regarded.
