Report: Moyes identifies PL defender

MawsonWest Ham are being linked with Swansea City defender Alfie Mawson as Hammers boss David Moyes heads into the January transfer window.

The story appears to have arisen from the West Ham boss showing a keen interest in the player when he was manager at Sunderland.

Now, The Telegraph reports that whilst Swansea are in talks with the player over a new deal, the Hammers are keen to make a bid.

Moyes has identified the back line as priority areas given the age of  James Collins and Jose Fonte and the 23 year old Mawson is the ideal age profile.

Sunderland are looking for a big fee of around £12 million but the player is valued at £5.3 million by the well respected https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/alfie-mawson/profil/spieler/287431

With Swansea having sacked former manager Paul Lambert it’s unlikely that they will want to lose a key player at this stage of the season with them facing relegation and that could push the price up even were they to consider selling.

  1. Am I in a parallel universe, Swansea sack Paul Lambert and Sunderland looking for a big fee

  2. Beat me to it! Whoever is selling the poor kid, he is full of promise and would be a good choice at the right price. Remember him at Wycombe when he was a kid and everyone was raving then. Good footballer for a big lad and puts himself about. Bit naive sometimes but who isn’t!

  3. He is far too slow for my liking; we have faster guys in our own U-23’s.

    • I haven’t noticed his pace before so will take your word for it Max, he has always seemed neat and tidy and gets favourable comments but its hard to say he screams out as a top player whoever Moyes chooses he has a good record in the transfer market so lets see what transpires 🙂

    • Where did you get that from Max, FIFA 18?
Swansea have conceded 7 fewer goals than us this season and they’re shyte, and Mawson has played a season in the PL without showing himself up. As Laz said, he is only going to improve and for the right price he could well be a shrewd investment. Yes we have Rice, Oxford and Burke bur Ricebis already becoming a mainstay and Mawson is better than the other two, or anything in our U23 side. So worth a punt. Leicester had and have slow CB’s and look at them!

  4. I like him , he’s gonna get much better , I would take him , good player and hungry at 23 yo!
Ginge and fonts in their 30,s I’d take this kid all day long ! 😉 maybe we can get him for 6 mill from sunderland and let them fight over the price with Swansea and west brom,s kit man who,s pals with sully 😂
