Rice impressive in bid for League Cup spot

Chelsea U23s 0 Irons U23s 0

Rice 3The Irons youngsters – with Declan Rice and Sead Haksabanovic playing leading roles- earned a valuable point in a game of few chances.

Academy boss Terry Westley had called on the squad to impress after the disappointment of Friday evening – in a bid to land places in the first team for the League Cup clash against Spurs this week.

Rice could not have done more to impress although manager Slaven Bilic was not at the game whilst Haksabanovic showed great skill and had one tremendous volley brilliantly saved.

Nathan Holland showed great determination down the left although Toni Martinez was not really prominent after his recent goal scoring exploits.

The Hammers were always dominant, starting and finishing with tremendous enthusiasm and the home side were hard pushed to withstand the waves of attacks that came their way.

And when the young Blues did get forward Rice made a couple of outstanding blocks to ensure that keeper Nathan Trott remained pretty well untroubled apart from one shot which was palmed over.

Second half sub for the Irons, Dan Kemp, also saw a shot finger-tipped over after a great run and pass inside and he was also denied a clear penalty when he was clearly brought down inside the box but the referee’s official remained unmoved despite having a clear view of the incident from no more than 10 yards away.

  1. Yes ,, bilic will able to blame him again if we lose lol!! 😎 when is gold back from his break , should have been on the blower immediately to sully and sacked him lol
Or has he got on the first available peddle boat to peddle home and wait until it blows over ?? 😎

  2. watched it, we played really nice stuff. there is so little connection between the u23s and the first team style of play. bilic has barely ever watched them i hear. you don’t find many top managers who don’t want the youths playing in the same way as the first team. pep goes a step beyond and trains ball boys! not asking for level of detail, but surely the immediate team below the first team should be playing in the same way. or in our case, the first team more like the u23s.

westley should be in charge right now for me, whilst we look for another manager.

  3. We need to bring noble back in on Wednesday against spurs…obiang And kouyate were poor against Brighton..rice is for the future not yet…

  4. Just watched spurs rip Liverpool to bits !! With pace and quickness of passing ? Noble ?
Where you been h1 , in hibernation mate? Ffs you jest surely !!😂😂
11 players weren’t at it v Brighton ? How do you single obiang and kouyate out ?
Nobles done mate and if he starts him v spurs there will be a stewards !!!😉

    • No I disagree with you, against spurs last month he was as good as any West Ham player..for me he’s a good player…let’s have it right kouyate hasn’t played well for a few weeks now, and was took off at half time v Brighton..obiang was very poor the other night and that’s a fact.. as was the team…so it’s ok for you to single noble out but not me Obiang?? You can’t have it both ways papa Lazarus..
