Snodgrass a Hammer and can’t wait to get started

snoddy1Robert Snodgrass has officially become a Hammer this evening (Fri).e ahead of Sofiane Feghouli

ClaretandHugh told readers he was on his way much earlier in the day and we feel it’s a very good signing at £6 million plus add-ons.

Snodgrass is set to move ahead of Sofiane Feghouli as a right winger with the Algerian now available to interested clubs as we reported earlier.

On agreeing his deal Snodgrass told the official site: ““I’m delighted because this is a massive club with great tradition.

“This is the sort of Club which speaks for itself, the fans who come here and support week-in week-out and moving to and selling out this new stadium is terrific and I want to be part of it.

“The owners and the manager are trying to build something here and I just can’t wait to get started. I feel this is a Club with real ambition, with the new stadium, great players and a manager of his calibre at Premier League level.

“The lads will say we want to be up in the top half of last table and repeat last year, so it’s up to us. The Club has had a few good weeks with results and if I can add to that, great. I’m just looking forward to meeting my new teammates and getting started.”

  1. Get the beard shaved mate. That would be a good start!

  2. I’m so disappointed by this signing. For me it shows a total lack of ambition from our club who’ve been banging on about taking it to another level since Slaven Bilic took over from Sam Allardyce. Snodgrass is a good pro that has played for Championship level teams in Leeds, Norwich and Hull – two of whom became promoted and struggled. He is not the calibre of player of our so-called ambitions…….did we hear of Tottenham, Arsenal or Liverpool being interested? No.
Overpriced Snodgrass has to hit the ground running and emulate what Antonio has accomplished during 2016 to win me over. I really hope I’m wrong, but I’ll bet he won’t be at West Ham for the last year of his contract..
The same scenario goes for Hogan, should we end up being lumbered by his presence in our squad. If Brentford are hanging on for their desired £15m, then West Ham can hold out for £30m+ for the sale of Payet. “We’re not going to sell our best players on the cheap”, they said.

    • £6 million plus add ons for a proven British player who has already scored 9 goals this season (7 in the league) is bloody good value.

If your idea of showing ambition is paying ridiculous sums for so called big-name players, then I’d rather stick with hidden gems like Creswell, Antonio, Lanzini and Sakho.

I am more than hopeful that Snodgrass will be a success, given his goal scoring record in the PL and modest price tag.

      • Spindoc, If West Ham had a team of players of Robert Snodgrass’s level……. they would be in the Championship. He’s hardly proven in the Prem is he? Norwich City and Hull City – two struggling teams. There’s never ever been any talk of a top 6 club being interested in him – and the hidden gems you write of were all no more than 25. Robert is pushing 30. West Ham is as far as he will go, and I’ll bet he’s moved on before the end of his contract (to a team in the Championship).

West Ham may never find out how good Sofiane Feghouli could become if (as reported) Snodgrass is his replacement. Hopefully, Manuel Lanzini can step up to fill the hole sorely left by Dimitri Payet’s pending departure.

  3. What a lame comment. George Best, Olivier Giroud, Eric Cantona, Wayne Rooney in his day, all had beards. Did that make them worse players? What on earth is relevant about his beard ffs?

  4. TRB we are just consolidating for the rest of the season and trying to ensure our highest finishing position possible. We need back up and cover. Our squad is very slim once you get past the starting 11. Just look at our bench for the last 6 weeks or so. We ain’t paid a fortune for a very capable performer. Can’t see what your problem is.

    • I’ll answer that, Mooro66uk. When West Ham were in the Championship 5 years ago, the club made some effective short term signings to ensure that they gained an immediate return to the Premier League. You know the players I’m referring to – Baldock, Maynard, Vaz Te, Carew, Faye, Danny Collins, Lansbury, Diop, etc. No problem with that. It was important with Sam Allardyce as boss, playing the style of football that consolidated the club for 3 seasons that they had those mid table finishes. Other careful signings were made, some of them on loan. Again you know the players I’m referring to, so I won’t list them. No problem with that, either. However, by summer 2015, an ambitious declaration on sending the club to new heights was made ahead of the stadium relocation. Slaven came in……and better players were signed. Payet, Lanzini, Moses, Obiang, Ogbonna, etc. Unknown quantity, Antonio came and kept his place on merit when there were mid-season injuries. (Turned out to be a brilliant signing.) Then came last summer…….All those new faces we trusted were going to be excellent ones like the year before. Not too have proved to be worthwhile investments, and some have been disastrous – Due to his long term injury, the jury is still out on Ayew. Fernandes looks like he’s going to be excellent, and the signed youngsters are looking good for the future. We’ve lost Payet – I won’t go into that saga. Fonte looks to be a pretty good capture and will keep the defence safer for a couple of years whilst Burke and Oxford progress. My problem is that this is supposed to a new wave West Ham United, not harking back to the bad frustrating seven years of Harry’s frequently desperate and comedic wheeling and dealing or Sam’s negative consolidation. Mark Noble said last May about the club no longer being run like a circus! Since then, it’s gone back that way. I just don’t believe Snodgrass (plus Hogan) for potentially £25m is good business. There must be two better options out there (possibly on loan until the end of May) – or one bigger signing instead. Last season West Ham made huge strides forward – they were not punching above their weight as some have suggested. This season, the club has moved backwards. I still think they will finish between 8th and 10th, instead of the 4th or 5th place that with hindsight, might’ve been achieved last season had it not have been for the Swansea and Stoke defeats at the end. I hope that clarifies my viewpoint.

  5. Great signing, a real pro – good luckto him!

  6. Welcome to West Ham Snodgrass.

I’m sure like me, the majority of West Ham fans desperately want you to do well for us and will support you every step of the way as long as you show real passion and work ethic, alongside the dribbling and free kick talents we expect. COYI

  7. An excellent bit of business to go with Fonte.Word has it that Fonte is really imposing himself on the training ground.I think he is the defensive born leader we have so needed.
This is another really shrewd signing.
Ummm now didnt hear of Tottenham Liverpool or Arsenal being interested because they sign players a cut above us.Is it so difficult to understand we are not on their level…yet.
It really is no surprise some of our rival fans laugh at some of you with your delusions of grandeur when it comes to our club.

  8. Sorry Hugh but Snodgrass is predominantly left footed – watch him dribble or take a free kick. Why would we sell our right-footed right winger and replace him with a left footer? Surely the left footed snodgrass is to replace Payet – whether he leaves or not – on the left wing?

    • Yeah he is predominantly left footed but i think he has played mainly on the right side when i have seen him DJ 😉

      • Yeah I’ve seen him play there too, Rads, but I just thought given our right-side has options and with Payet going, sticking him on the left made more sense. I’m a bit old fashioned when it comes to the wings – I like the wingers to cross with their strongest foot. He’s not shy about crossing with his right to be fair to him (unlike some who are totally 1 footed) but when you have a sweet left foot like his and big AC, it seems a shame not to put them together.

        • I totally agree with you mate,it does my head in when you have rigjt footers on the left & vice versa.Nothing worse than watching a winger steaming down the line then cutting in field.I aint saying it doesnt work but i prefer to see them getting to the byline & whipping a cross in.Thats what wingers were invented for wasnt it 😁😁

      • Anyway, I’m sure Slav has probably forgotten more about football than I’ll ever know so I’ll leave him to it!

  9. We aint in a positiom to sign the top top players they will go to the bigger clubs. So we have to try & compete for the next level of players. Its pretty well accepted from what i have read & seen that pundits/ex pros say Fonte was a great bit of business. This is too imo.
I really dont get the ‘ did Citeh want him’,’was Arsenal bidding for him’,’was any top four team interested’.Of course they f*cking wasnt,if they had been we wouldnt be signing them would we,the geezer would be signing for them 😂😂

  10. Why sell any of them? We are pretty threadbare at the moment. Great to have cover in vital positions.

  11. Snodgrass is well worth a punt. £10m seems steep, but as I said earlier that is the market now. At one time not so long ago it was championship quality players for us or nothing. I suggest those people who think we have made no progress go on the net or look at an old match programme from 3/4 years ago & compare the players.

On the other hand the supreme optimists who say ‘give the kids a chance’. We all like to see that I agree, but there is a reason they are not being given a chance. Along with most clubs we are not producing outstanding home grown players. With so many foreign players they have to be really good to justify a proper run. Another sign of the times.

Mooro66 I do know there have been some good players with beards mate. And some bad ones. You are right it has nothing to do with anything. You probably had one at some time, but when you got rid of it you must have shaved off your sense of humour at the same time.

    • Yeah big time on the progress 64.When you look at some of the players we had 4 or 5 years ago it makes you wonder how the hell we won any games..I mean fair play they did well for what they were but we did have some shyte in the teams then.😁

  12. Really? Beard issues?

    Messi…

    …nuff said.

  13. Probably never saw the irony H64. Comes from seeing so many negative, nit picking posts on this and other sites. Just become a bit cynical i suppose. Apologies. COYI X

  14. Welcome addition that. Snodgrass and Fonte both imo. Not bad for a club that are “skint” and I see Snodgrass has already been written off as a cheat and a waste of money by some. Welcome to West Ham my son.

I suppose there will be more before Tuesday as Snoddy and Fonte just fill the gaps left by Payet and Ogbonna. With Tore and Zara gone you can see a striker and another midfielder and surely a fullback too. I agree I hope Feg doesn’t go as I think he’s just beginning to get a feel for the prem.

    Well done the board.

  15. Also want to add my voice to the Ad protest! I can handle the ads other than the ones that pop up and often take you straight onto their site. When you close them down they chuck you off C&H and you have to start again. Complete pain.

  16. No need Mooro. Let’s get back to the football. At least we seem to be pretty much in agreement on the important thing in life!

  17. According to papers Marseilles have upped the the offer to £27.5m plus add on taking it over £30m. May not be true, but if it is club should take it & get this over. I know some want to see him humiliated in reserves but I would like to see it behind us. £20m profit is not bad!

  18. hey Bonzo had a beard & wot a legend he turned out to be. we’ve had some useful Scottish players in the past Ray Stewart Frank Macavennie Neil Orr they came on the cheap or the prices that was about right at the time of transfers so if Frank Macavennie was still playing some of you wouldn’t pay £10 million for him? COYI welcome Robert Snodgrass great signing

  19. Not the marquee signing we would all like!! BUT solid and a good player.when He WHO shall not be named has fxxed off and the ship steadies. I’m sure the club will add quality big names.. In Slav and the Board we need to trust…. COYI
