Sullivan gets a 90 minute Hernandez hurry up

match actionSturm Graz 0 Irons 0

David Sullivan got a Javier Hernandez hurry up this evening as the Irons opened their pre season campaign with a 0-0 draw against Sturm Graz in Austria.

The uncomfortable stats showed an empty goals column after 16 attempts on the Sturm goal who are three games into their pre-season and managed to find the net three times in their last game.

But to be honest the Irons never looked like emulating that as first Fletcher, then Ayew wasted four first half chances from close in against a youthful Sturn outfit.

Feghouli appeared in the second half but like Snodgrass before him carried no real finishing product when on goal although in fairness  looked a better proposition than the Scot.

The upside was the Irons – after double training sessions since arriving in Austria – looked fitter and stronger than they did at the same stage last season.

And the arrival of Manu Lanzini certainly lifted the tempo of the second half with Declan Ricce looking very comfortable at the back.

It was probably satisfactory rather than sensational as an opener but Thursday night against Fulham will probably tell us an awful lot more than this match – played on a training pitch rather than in a stadium.

I liked the look of Toni Martinez – a second half replacement for Fletcher and Nathan Holland also caught the eye but we all know the issue at hand – the strikers!

Over to you Mr Sullivan.

IRONS: Adrian (Randolph 46), Zabaleta (Byram 46), Collins (Rice 46), Burke (Ogbonna 46), Masuaku (Cresswell 46), Noble (c) (Cullen 46), Obiang (Makasi 46), Holland (Fernandes 46), Snodgrass (Lanzini 46), Ayew (Feghouli (46), Fletcher (Martinez 46)

  1. I liked the look of Cullen.. the way he weaved and turned, reminded me of Scott Parker.
Zabaleta looked decent as well. He looked so comfortable and everything he did looked effortless.

  2. I’d like to add to my previous comment.
Snodgrass was diabolical… I mean Jesus… he was bad. Worst player on the pitch, that’s including the tier side 3 Austrian team.
    He needs to go..
We need to keep Feghouli and sell Snodgrass.

  3. Agree Snodgrass was Horrible. I always likes Cullen and would like to keep him in Squad give a chance. He was great last preseason too.
But if btwn Feghouli and Snodgrass. Feghouli all day.
But obviously a game we should win.
I think are training is still lacking there as been talks of Slav being to soft I’m training.

  4. Rice should saty in Squad too we need CBs and he shouldn’t go out on loan at his age he should be given a shot

  5. this was nothing more than a training match. you can’t read anything in to it

  6. yeah it was an early pre season game, but what i will say is cresswell was dreadful he looks like he’s forgotten how to play football/left back,he has’nt looked right for months. The only left back in england that cant find a team mate, lanzini must be getting sick of putting him in!i love fernandez could be a big player this year, lanzini classy as always, ferghouli should stay i think he could be handy.

  7. Never watched it i have to be honest.Personally i would rather stick my ass in a bucket full of porcupine quills than watch these pre season jog abouts 😉

  8. That’s a shame rads , you missed the reincarnation of jenks with a ball of wool going under the name of feghouli 🙂 🙂 I’ll stop there before I upset to many beards , if you get my drift 🙂 it ain’t worth it , not yet anyway , maybe after man city 🙂 🙂 🙂

    • Pre season friendlies bore me shytless.Same as International ones when they change all 11 players. Its just a glorified training session & i would rather been down the boozer than watch that 😉

  9. Yes , I felt like that for most of last season 🙂 but paid good money to watch it:-)
    This was free shyte 🙂

  10. Sean on talksport brilliant!

  11. Chuckled when they referred to him as ‘Sean Wetpants’ : D

    • Lmao thats what happens when you have a connection to whtid. He is a wetpant by association.

      • Got to admit that had me chuckling. Sean Wetpants. Too funny 😂😂

He writes good articles over there. I just wish we were trusted intellectually with articles like these lol

  12. We all know what the best transfer the owners could make and that would be to sale the club to some one else who’s going to spend money and not just talk about it, we have been linked to good players in this window again but we all know that they are not going to spend the money on them, if they do spend money in this window it will be last minute on players that are past it or no other club wants, it’s time the owners did the rigjt thing and sold the club to some else who’s not scared of spending money to make money and not just fill the bank accounts up, we pay almost nothing for the ground but yet still seem to have no money to buy good players, all the cock and bull we need premiership players and yet we still lookingvto buy cheap over sea players again, should have sold to red bull last season when they had the chance cos look what there done with ever other club they own spent moneybox make money we are a great club with loyal fans we need a good owner that wants the club to be great again

  13. ZZZZZZzzzzzz

  14. Red Bull West Ham what a delightful thought..not!!!

  15. Where’s young Samuelson??
