Sullivan opens up on spending plans

David-Sullivan-001David Sullivan admits the Hammers defence this summer – which could well involve Carl Jenkinson – is likely to be the club’s priority areas this summer.

Jenks is valued at around £8million but West Ham will be keen to negotiate that given the presence of such as of Hector Belerin, Calum Chambers and Mathieu Debuchy at the Emirates..

Apasr from the right back it appears the club will be looking hard at central defence where the club has been thin in the last couple of years.

Sullivan told the official website: “Our planning for strengthening the squad in the summer has been underway for some time

“I think we need goalscorers, a right back and maybe a central defender. The situation with Carl Jenkinson won’t be clear until the end of the season but we will have to sign a right back one way or another.

“We of course bought Cheik Kouyate to play in midfield and as a fourth choice centre half but two years in a row now we’ve been caught out in central defence so it might be that we look to strengthen in that area for next season.

“We have Doneil Henry of course and he won impressive reviews for his performances at Blackburn Rovers before getting injured. If he’s ready for the Premier League then he could get a chance, otherwise it might be that he goes out on loan again to gain more experience.

“If we do decide to buy, the challenge would be then trying to keep four central defenders happy but you do then have the cover for when you get injuries as we seem to have a habit of losing our centre halves for key parts of the season.”

  1. also a decent back up keeper plz & get rid of the deadwood ie Nolan & O’Brien

  2. … and add to that a central midfielder/playmaker that can find that final pass forward. If Song leaves there will be a big hole in creativity that will be enormously missed. If we are to keep increasing the club “to the next level” this is not a maybe, it is a must.

  3. Just my opinion I feel we need a good stand in for Adrian in goals, I agree we need a top right full (let me be clear – Jenks is not this). I actually believe with the emergence of Oxford and Henry we have enough cover at centre half if we had a manager who believed in giving youth a chance. There is no question the fans want a new man at the helm next season (my preference is Bilic or Klopp – wud be devasted to see Moyes or Benitez given the job). We need a playmaker (another Berkovic) – this is the most important signing. We need this type of player who can get into the pockets and play the killer passes to Sakho and Valencia. And if Song leaves we need to replace him. These are the musts and after that another top frontman or wideman would be the icing on the cake..

    • yep you got it in one….a playmaker would be my no 1 priority, someone to feed the brilliance of Sahko who could become a Hammers legend.

  4. Dont worry johnham, you didnt need to make it clear what you think about jenkinson. We all know by now your thoughts on him,lol 😀 If we leave the signing to Sullivan & Henry we should do well again like last summer. If BFS does stay then keep him away from the purse strings,we should have learnt our lesson over the last few transfer windows that he buys some real muppets 😉

  5. There will be a revolt if we have to put up with his awful management and style of play for any longer. He is so out of his depth – it is incredible to believe that the Board did not sack him last season. He has denied us a very good season with some awful decisions that will end up costing the club money. I am disappointed with the actions of our owners in this respect but I have to say they have been brilliant in the transfer market (don’t let me down on Jenks- if he is not good enough for Arsenal he is not good enough for West Ham).

    • I have always struggled with people saying “so & so are (whatever team) flops”. Any team can only play 11 players, teams like Arsenal have bigger spending power than us. Every player that leaves a club doesn’t make them a flop.

      • Yep,100% agree essex, going on this principle we would never buy anyone from a team in the top 6 because if they dont want them they are a flop or not good enough for us if not good enough for a champions league team.I guess Lukas Podolski is deemed a flop at Arsenal but im sure we would take him given the chance!

        • I think we still need to realize where we are & atm we are not in the position to say that if a player is not good enough for arsenal he isnt good enough for us 🙂

  6. I would have said doneil henry could be our 4th man centreback but lets face it none of our defenders seem to have a decent set of hamstrings between them. Would be an idea to recruit a centreback with the same kind of record consistancy and reliability as aaron cresswell at left back. We should pull all the stops out to sign jenkinson. He has been best right back weve had for many a year. moving out in the summer i would have thought will be cole, jarvis, demel, obrien. top quality upgrades required for those 4 and were pretty much there. Then we just need to hold onto allardyce. He will of course be wanted by other clubs so we will need to negotiate a good deal on a new contract to keep hold of him. No question the majority of fans would not wish to see allardyce sacked. If he decided to move on by mutual consent or of his own free will then fine and i for one would thank him for the job he has done since he took over from avram grant.

  7. Haha,ok so now i know for sure that you are on a wind up lifeissobeautifulmarriedtosam. You are a spurs supporter coming on here to get the board to renew Allardyces contract to make sure that we never get close to being level or overtaking them as a premeirship force 😀

  8. ‘No question the majority of fans would not wish to see allardyce sacked’,hahaha,oh you are a class act Lifeis. Thanks for making me laugh early on a sunday morning 😉

  9. Must support a different team to you Lifeissobeautiful. If the majority of fans want to keep Sam i am going to a different ground to you as well.Maybe you are sat in Sams family box & oblivious to the views of the fans in the ground. There is no ‘majority’ in favour of Sam thats for sure COYI!

  10. Sure Allardyce will be wanted by other clubs, but they will all be either Championship teams or ones who are relegation threatened in the Prem.No team who has aspirations to be european place challengers will want him because he doesnt have the skill sets to deliver it in this day & age of Prem football.Let him go to someone who he benefits with his abilities.A team that needs solidity,to win ugly & bore the pants of the fans for a couple of years 😉

  11. Btw lifeissobeautiful, yeah your right,we need to negotiate a good deal for him, what to do you recommend for your hero, maybe 6m a year would be reasonable, lol 😀

  12. I always find it amusing when someone says the majority of the fans dont want Allardyce to go.If thats the case & he is doing such a fine job then why the hell do the board more than likely not want to renew his contract?.It bemuses me when i read these comments about Sams popularity(alleged).I guess it must just be the owners who dont see Sams flexible, sophisticated ways.

  13. Ok, several to move on like Jarvis, Carlton Cole, Nolan, O’Brien and Demel – back-up required for fullbacks, central-defence and at goalkeeper definitely – but I would also like more strength and pace in midfield – Song has been hit and miss and likely to be too expensive for what he gives, so I would look elsewhere.

Obviously, BFS to move on too and the new guy, whoever he is, to get to grips with the Squad as soon as possible.

  14. ahahaha… lifeissobeautiful you are Conker’s worthy heir… you share a disinterested and unconditional love for the Genius, this a wonderful thing. You’re right, we need to negotiate a very good deal on a new contract asap, before Real Madrid steals him…I don’t know what we’d do without him, I don’t even want to think about this terrible event..

  15. Haha, yes Matte,we had Conkerpot aka sleepinwitdafishes aka lifeissobeautiful, the many changing names of the same man,lol 😀

  16. I think Sullivan was behind signings this season, first he needs to get some backbone get rid of Big Fat Sam, sign some good new players to add to the squad, a few players can be released such as Nolan, not sure if anyone would take Carroll., Then I just hope the new manager will give Youth a chance which Sam would never do, and even a few players whose fit does not fit with Sam.

  17. Lifeissoloverly without BFS,what a good weekend we have gone 2 weeks without defeat
No injuries the players are getting over fatigue,BFS and Mrs Brady have become friends again,
Can’t wait to see the staring 11 for next week
    Then back to norm.
