These are extraordinary Irons moments – relish them!

It’s almost impossible to believe the business West Ham have been doing since the summer started.

The massive and still key arrival was manager Manuel Pellegrini on £10 million  a year deal and we have to accept that everything that’s followed has been as a result of the Chilean agreeing to take over at the club.

Ryan Fredericks was a decent start, Lukasz Fabianski reasonable but when Issa Diop arrived we knew something special was starting to unfold.

Jack Wilshere’s decision to join us came – he explained – as a result of the chat he had with our manager declaring: “I wanted to be a part of his plan.”

Within 24 hours of that Borrusia Dortmund wideman Andriy Yarmolenko had flown into the Swiss training camp, taken his medical and signed before giving his first interview on the official site. Staggering!

Now we hear and see Felipe Anderson arriving at Heathrow  with all the indications being he is going to become the marquee signing on Monday at over £50 million.

There were those who believed that David Moyes had received a bum rap when the board thanked him and wished him goodbye at the beginning of summer.

But nobody will convince me that Moyes or indeed Slaven Bilic would have nailed down this number of quality signings so quickly.

In responding so positively to the woes and protests of last season the Hammers board is watching their managerial choice having the sort of effect that has you believing the Europa League may not be an impossible dream.

The sun is burning down, top quality signings are appearing almost daily and we are told this is most certainly not the end of them.

We had our share of misery last season… let’s all enjoy these extraordinary moments!

  1. Exciting times. But fortune always hides…

  2. I think the impossible dream ranks a little bit higher than Europa league Hugh. Though beating Astra goo goo would be a nice start I suppose.

  3. Europa League? I can do without that this year. A solid year of rebuilding will do me, with some exciting football . Not very ambitious I know but I am thinking more in terms of the things I DON’T want for this season. No hysterical newspaper articles going on about the LS, no injury crisis, no player discontent & no financial meltdown. We will lose games obviously but none of those games that are over after 30m with us 3/4 goals down. Is that all too much to ask for? Oh yes, & very few interviews with board members in the papers or pre match on the tv.

  4. I agree very unlike West Ham,apart from from when Bilic went out and bought loads of squad fillers for our doomed European adventure for the first season at LS.The only difference is we’re buying better quality players, however there could be a potential problem playing as a team with so many incoming, time to gel could take 8-12 games.COYI

  5. 8-12 games? Thought that’s what the training pitch was for.

  6. Bilic made excellent buys including Payet,Lanzini and Ogbana when he first arrived.Time and prices have moved on in the three years since.
Let’s hope the owners have learned from the foolishness in withholding sufficient funds in the summers of 2016 and 17 .

  7. I will enjoy it if we get Anderson signed and Balbuena and hopefully a genuine defensive midfielder, this is season 1 there is a lot of building still to do, with so many new players it is unreasonable to expect them all to gel in a few weeks, I hope they do of course but it will probably take time for the players to adjust to Pellegrini’s style of play and their new surroundings, if we make Europa League for a few seasons and establish ourselves in the later stages of that I would be happy, we need to build a financial platform aswell as a squad COYI !!!

  8. So we praise a guy to the hilt for spending someone else’s money; money his predecessors didn’t have? So far he’s achieved nothing except negotiate a big pay check and attract some names. Yes. I really hope he succeeds for the sake of the club, but reward achievement spending. Don’t slag off Moyes and Bilic who would have dreamed of the same purse.

  9. It’s all very good talking about this good signing etc etc, but it’s long overdue that money has been spent as our squad was atrocious and we’ve been very fortunate not to have been relegated ……As far as I’m concerned if we want to mix it with decent teams then you need to get the wonga out ….so far we’ve spent shekles ….I sincerely hope all the best for all the new squad members but we’re far from the finished article..for me another 3-4 good players need bringing in but on the strength of what we’ve seen so far we’ve done ok in the transfer market…keep up the signings those upstairs ….
